Listening to dub on my HD598. So much fail.

Four more days until shipping.

I'm curious about this as well.  I think it was quite a few months ago (so might have changed in the meantime) that Val said something about the M100 possibly only surpassing the M80 when amped, due to the larger drivers.

That's not quite right, is it? I was there for that discussion, and it was pretty core to how we got the impression of what the M-100 sound signature was going to be like. The way Val put it, the sig started with the M-80, added a touch of bass impact (+9Db from neutral I believe, pre-production) and added treble extension (the highs wouldn't be as recessed, though Val is on a mission to reduce hearing-harsh treble boost spikes). Both the M-80 and M-100 are sensitive enough to not need an extra-powerful amp, but when Val paired the M-100 with the VAMP it scaled higher than the M-80.

For low-impedance and portable-device-tuned sensitivity, what you really need in any extra amping to be worth it is an amp designed with a very low output impedance (1:8 amp output to headphone Ohm ratio is the rule of thumb) and enough power to supply lots of current at a particular gain setting. If you want more info on that, head-fi'er ClieOS has two amp review round-ups you should check out.

Really...? Honestly, my 598's are my favorite headphones I've owned thus far. Maybe you should try pairing them with a Digizoid ZO2 or something; really rich that bass up.

I love them... for mastering and gaming. Not for music listening. Especially not for deep/strong bass.

Well like I said, try it with a ZO2. That's what I do if I want to do some listening with those, and the bass is very smooth and delicious.

So... it seems this one still hasn't shipped? It seems that this one and the Sony MDR-1R are going to make it to stores at the same/similar time frame? (mid-October/November?)

That's going to be a tough one.!

P.S. Listening to dub on my Mad Dogs! :p == WIN

Actually, I think Kendoji might be right and that the discussion you're talking about came later.  The first discussion occurred prior to Mr. Kolton's having anything resembling a working model, didn't it?  He opened by asking Head-fi members general questions about whether we were interested in the idea of an amp improving the sound and what we wanted from headphones with larger drivers generally.  That was well before the Vamp existed.

I think you're right insofar as he compared the M80 to his projected model and talked about more bass, but I thought he mentioned the amp in connection with the larger drivers' needing more power.  The idea was that they would sound good directly out of an iPod but even better amped.

At any wraith, a search by someone less indolent than the three of us might put the matter to bed, tuck it in and offer it a steaming mug of curried Brandy Alexander for its trouble.  Personally, I gag at the idea of curried cognac, but then again, I'm not bedded matter.

Now there's a good idea on a cool overcast day. Thank you sir, excuse me while I get my beverage of choice warmed up and mellow out with music on my rig

Val mentioned he is in the process of signing the M-100s.  Did he say what or where he was signing- packaging, headphone, something else?

Val, if you happen to read this around 4:00 a.m. EST (I am usually sound asleep when you log on), I contacted customer service and am willing to pay a premium to upgrade my shipping (I selected standard free shipping at the time of my order), but was told the order would need to be cancelled and reordered which would cause me to lose my reservation if I change shipping, so I left it alone.  I know you have a great deal on your plate, but if you can have your tech person(s) make shipping adjustable without cancelling orders, this would be some nice flexibility from a customer service standpoint and a possible revenue opportunity for V-Moda as others may be thinking the same as me and want these as soon as possible.  There were others here in a similar spot with needing to change shipping addresses, but they didn't want to lose their "spot in line".  I am on the East coast and it will probably take 5 days otherwise to receive.  As I am completely and dysfunctionally preoccupied with the M-100, those extra few days after they finally ship are just slightly less than eternity to me.

I heard he may be shipping from New York, so you should be in luck. Maybe I'm wrong but I remember Val saying he was there with the M100s. Not sure If he'll be back to his base in LA and sending from there or not.

Appreciate the consolation, but my understanding is that several were shipped to NY so that Val could have for final approval and get a head start signing them while on a mini press tour.  I believe he was then bringing them back to LA where all will be assembled, boxed and shipped from there.

Hey, you Americans have it easy with the free shipping, I had to pay $20 + whatever customs charges to wait an upward of a few weeks, a minimum of about a week. :p  Your free shipping would be about equivalent to what we have to pay $40 for.
