Hi! Thank You for your info!

Do you tried on the same hardware both headphones? How does it compare the bass and highs on the M50x vs M-100? One has an advantage of the other, or the M-50x is better in every aspect?

I'm planning to buy a V-Moda M100 or an ATH-50x (I planning to use for electronic music, that's why I gravitating towards the M-100). I have a question about it. Are there any different versions from this headphone on the market? For example, there was a line refresh where engineers changed something and there are v2, v3, etc. versions over the years? Or I don't need to afraid from this and doesn't matter where I buy the headphone, because I always getting the one and only latest

My .02: I have the ATH M50 and really like them, I listen to all kinds of music.  I tried the V-Moda M100 and found it muddy and lacking soundstage.  I know everyone has different tastes, but I really could not hear anything in the V-Moda to recommend it.
Disagree entirely. The ATH-M50 might be more neutral (still with a slight bass boost), but the V-Moda M-100 is much clearer and more fun overall.

Well here's my 2 cents regarding the 2 .

Overall I like the M-100 more but I guess it depends on what you like. Even though the ATH-M50 is certainly not bass shy I just find the overall sound of the M-100 just a little warmer and "creamier" and not quite as clinical as the ATH-M50 (clinical just being relative in this case to the M-100). With the M-100 it's almost like I'm "experiencing" good sounding music vs just "listening" (and not just in a bass thump type of way). There is just something about the ATH-M50 sound didn't draw me in like the M-100.
I also found the M-100 a little smaller and more comfortable (which will probably increase with the XL pads I ordered).

However I still use the ATH-M50 for home music recording and it sound awesome for that, especially recording guitars.

This may sound odd, but I've been attempting to get as comfortable of a fit as possible for a while and adjusting my headband in the mirror helped by miles! I had figured out that the left side has to be fully-extended for my left ear to snugly fit inside it (it could even stand to go a little lower) while the right side is fine being slightly extended. I don't have an oddly-shaped head but this mirror trick improved my comfort by a lot! The headphones sound consistently better too. I hadn't assumed I would have to extend it so far down but this definitely helped.

Honestly still not perfect but not too shabby.

Wow! Getting the fit perfect definitely improves the sound. Really important to take a few minutes to get a 100% perfect fit. :)

Tried the M-100 first time on a plane. Disappointed compared to IEMs. Not enough isolation for the plane noise. However if I turn the volume around 20% above my average listening level it is quite ok. On train and bus it is fine. But not on plane. I might rebuy an IEM for my plane trips.

M-100s sound amazing on a plane, in my experience -- with or without an amp, and with or without extreme Rockbox EQ'ing. On the EQ, I also find myself using one less bass increment, and one lower treble category than I normally use while on a plane. Not sure if that's because of the outside noise, or due to the lower equivalent cabin pressure (i.e., about 2000 m or 6000 ft) that changes the music equalization.

agreed completely.. they isolate as good as anything especially with the upgraded large earpads

I'm not so sure about that, even on the subway and just general public transit in general. I thought they were slightly underwhelming.  I compensate by turning up the volume a couple notches, but for me anyway (any more then 1 notch change, between home and noisy environmental use is already not looking good to me in terms of isolation).

its due to those vents (i had better success with once i taped up those vents on the inside) i think it was done earlier in this thread, so your not ruining the sweet design with tape (at least on the outside)

the bass got slightly more restrained but at the cost of a bit of soundstage.

the second reason I'm suspecting is probably due to the lack of swivel on the m100s.

it really doesn't rotate from left to right, only up and down. (which i think is a bit a of mistake)

they can do something similar to the master and dynamic mh40, where it has a small metal pivot where the clique fold hinge is, to help evenly distribute the pressure and conform to the user better
with the m100s (at least during my time with them) I had to turn up the volume on my ipod touch/ s3 i think 3 or so notches. (totally subjective and will vary from person to person)

just sharing my thoughts.

in terms of full size or portable headphones that i have personally owned or have used (borrowed for an extended period of time)

i would put them in this order

highest isolation-------------------lowest

Sennheiser amperior, focal spirit one, sennheiser momentum, beats studio 2013, v-moda m100,--------noontec zoro hd 2------------beats studio original, sennheiser momentum=vmoda xs----- ausdom m06= noontec zoro original.

Mind doing a quality ranking?

Hey guys!

This may seem like a dumb question but I'd appreciate any response anyhow.

My M100 Shadow's are arriving tomorrow which i'm really excited about. I was wondering if there is any way of further protecting the suede headband? I'm aware that suede is resistant to tear but not to wear and that sweat/water, dirt etc can cause it to discolour and turn dingy (i'm guessing this is why a lot of people go for the Matte Black/WhiteSilver M100's).

I'm a club DJ and because sweaty hair can get in the way I always wear a cap (backwards because why not) which i'm guessing will help protect the headband from getting sweaty however I am mildly concerned about the damage that may occur to the headband after regular use. Any reassurance or words of advice on how to maintain its condition would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers!

I actually have all three headband types; Shadow on my V-80, White/Silver on my M-100, and Matte Black on my XS. The V-80 is the oldest one I have, *3 years, and the headband has withstood the most abuse out of the three. I didn't like carrying the case for my V-80 and ending up losing it anyway, so I made it a habit to just toss them into my bag when I was out. For the three years that I used them daily, they barely show any wear and tear outside of some slight color fading and a couple of small scuffs which they probably got from rubbing up against spiral notebooks and nunchakus in my backpack.

I made the mistake of treating my White/Silver M-100 the same way. I didn't use the case and would just toss them into my bag. After 2 years, the headband started to crack and peel and it got so bad that I now have my entire headband duct taped to prevent further deterioration. The Matte Black headband on the XS is made of a similar(the same?) material as on the White/Silver M-100, so I baby them and always use a case. It's been an year and half, and no signs of damage yet.

I think the suede material is the most durable by far, and if you go the extra mile of wearing a hat to prevent sweat absorption and use the case whenever you travel with them you should be fine.

*Edit: I just looked up my invoice from when I bought the V-80 and it was only 3 years ago, which means I've bought a new V-MODA every year from 2012-2014. I honestly thought more time had passed.
