I asked iBasso whether the battery to the DX100 was user serviceable and got this response:

That brings us to one question - how do we dismantle the DX100? So far, those attempted all failed to do so.

I kind of figured it would be user replaceable especially at this price point. I don't see this unit as a throwaway DAP like the Sansa players.

I am trying to understand why iBasso decided to take out the Search button usually on Android OS devices, and keep the Menu button which Google is trying to remove from their interface. How does one do a search on the DX100? Would it be better if it had a dedicated button for searching anywhere on the device?

It's first and foremost a DAP, so surely a more 'pressing' question is why the DX100 doesn't have hard buttons for play, pause, ffw, rew (eg seeCowon J3).

just because it's android doesn't mean the legitimacy of these hard buttons is negated.

Granted you have a point, but still a search function can be pretty nifty to bypass steps in a program, especially when you have a music library to go through. 
 
The lack of physical buttons isn't as much an issue in this case. It would've probably made the device more expensive to make while not necessary these days. But I can see the case where physical buttons would be useful.

More buttons, more things to go wrong, which has happened on my iRivers. If Android, why not use what the screen is capable of? Seems like going forward not backward and this from someone that does like buttons but doesn't see the need on this device except for a few provided. 
 
The battery is easy to replace once the DX is opened. Easier than the iRiver.

not ranting, on my part, just pointing out that it is a rather major omission, not having Play/Pause, FFW, REW buttons. This DAP costs 800 bucks - for that, I get great sound quality (fair enough), but must I really suffer the indignity of having to take the damn thing out of my pocket and switch on the screen every time I simply wish to skip part or all of a track? That's a major mugging risk, having to take an $800 piece of audiophilia out of my pocket each and every time I wish to control playback in some way, no matter how minor.
 
Please bear in mind that I do recognise the merits of this DAP - and I do still want to obtain one, but sheesh - why go to so much trouble to design a state-of-the-art 'statement piece', only to undermine it all with poor ergonomics that omit the most primary, critical and basic of hard functions? Sometimes I despair of product designers.
 
Will it stop me from buying a DX100? Probably not.
Will it annoy the hell out of me when I should be reveling in unadulterated sonic bliss as I walk around town? Well, probably, yes.

That way No one will see you take your expensive nice super duper DAP, With Ibasso's name written on it  , we (future buyers) have to make some free advertising! for the companies we buy from! to make others buy from them, Does this make any sense?

Changing the topic, am I alone in noticing how few of the 40 buyers have followed through with their implicit promise to post reviews?
 
I hope this situation will change soon, as there are plenty of potential customers for the next batch (myself included), who could benefit from such reviews (I'm wishing average_joe had got one, as I find his reviews extremely detailed and helpful).

IMHO, an $800 audiophile-quality player is not something that I want to carry around in my pocket. For that purpose, I have a drawer full of players that could suffer pocket damage or even theft without regrets. My DX100 mostly lives on my desktop or bedside table and now functions as my main player.
