What does poi mean in otaku terms?

I think it's just a speech idiosyncrasy with no real meaning, like "nyan" or "nipaa". First thing that came to my mind when I first heard it was its similarity to the English word "like", when, like some, like, unnecessarily says "like", like, every second word.

For example, childish or child-like in Japanese is 子供っぽい, where "子供" is child and the "っぽい" suffix means -like.

It increases the moe factor.
