New Audeze LCD3

I have received my LCD-3. It is really beautifully made like a Porche. Solid and heavy. Reminded me of high end DSLR camera which feels solid and heavy. It makes my HD650 feels a bit like a toy. The zebra wood is beautifully polished and shiny. The microsuede earpads are very soft and comfortable. I am very impressed. The stock wire is a bit flimsy though.

Anyone here own or have listened to both the LCD-2F and LCD-3F? What do you think of Michael Mercer's comments above? He makes it sound like the LCD-2F provides a unique sound while most I've read says it is similar but inferior to the LCD-3F. I'd like to hear some opinions.

How is the sound? (;

I have high expectation for the LCD-3 after reading many good reviews. Some even said it is the best headphone period. First impression, it is quite good overall. Midrange is beautiful. Vocal sounds full. Smooth sound. High slight recess. I heard some people saying it will open up after some break-in. We will see about that.

Here is the graph/measurement.

Edit: The peak above 10k looks kinda high. What do you think?

Here's the graph of my LCD-3F's. Not any higher above 10K.

Both graphs looks about the same. Only some differences in some areas. The peak above/after 10k for both graphs goes up to 90 dBSPL but never above that. So not much difference for the LCD-3 from a year ago with the current production.

I am a newbie so probably not who you want to listen to but I will have them side-by-side off the Lyr (with killer tubes) in the next couple days. I'll try to remember to post on here.

It may not be a fair comparison though because I think the Lyr might not be driving the LCD-3 to its full potential.

On a separate issue (I posted this in the other thread I hope that's ok): Did anyone else other than me find the LCD-3 much more uncomfortable than the LCD2 (I have rev2s atm). Could it have something to do with the rev2s being totally broken in and the LCD-3s not at all? I just shot an email to Audeze asking if it's possible to stick LCD-2 pads on LCD-3s. Figure if people do it with the HE-6 should work on this.

My LCD-3 sounded smooth from my Leben CS600 tube (9 tubes) amp. Tube amp are suppose to sound like that. However, when I crank up the volume, the high is fatiguing after a while. Do you guys experience the same thing with the high on your new LCD-3? Maybe it just my ear. Hopefully, few hundred hours of break-in will tame down the high.

I don't, neither on my Decware tube amps (only 4 tubes rather than 9) nor Meier SS amp.
I don't think the Audez'es - even the 3F - are known for fatiguing highs.

However, I have found I needed to tube-roll to get the right match with both the LCD2r1 and 3F.
The LCD3 is often reported to be more fussy about amp (or tubes). I agree. I thought I got it right months ago. Now I realise I'm not quite there.

Or, could you be hearing problems in the mixing? Do you notice it more with some material/artists than others?

My 3Fs did change a bit with breaking-in but the never ever sounded fatiguing. How high are you cranking up the volume? With your most-excellent setup the volume could get really high before it would start to sound fatiguing. Is it possible you might be cranking it so hard your ears are starting to complain?

Must be my tiring ears. I was so excited since receiving this new toy. I have been breaking it 24 hours a day and spent time listening to it several times a day, probably about 80db or slightly higher.

I got my LCD-3 a few days ago and am finding it super uncomfortable compared to my LCD-2s. Anyone else feel that way? It seems that most people find the LCD-3s more comfortable so I think I'm in the minority.

I wrote Audeze asking them if it's possible to put LCD-2 pads on the LCD-3 without compromising the SQ. Hoping it is...

Do you have the leather pads?  I find it takes them a few days to soften up even more and conform to shape.  I've had new pads 5 times and noticed the pattern after the first few.
