[Review] Superlux HD668b, They Cost How Much? (Foam Mod+More for 668b+681!)

out of the box these cans are amazeballs. :)  still burning them in.

`They sound good at first, but after many hours of burn-in they begin to shine. Sound integrates, bass comes up, lo-mid-hi lobing of everything disappears and instruments sound more realistic. Really good on jazz, vocals and classical.

Mine did not settle in for at least 3 months if not more.

I expect the other SuperLux models would respond the same. They need long burn-in, and they respond well to upgraded ODAC's, cabling, and such.

The removable jack on the left earphone is a nice touch, 2.5mm female plugs into the headphones. The cable is a bit thin and cheap feeling, but there's no problems I have with it sound wise or durability wise so far.

keanex,

Could you please tell me if the removable jack is 2,5mm or 3,5mm?

keanex,

Could you please tell me if the removable jack is 2,5mm or 3,5mm?

The end that plugs into the headphones are 2.5mm, the other end that plugs into your source or amp is 3.5mm.

3.5 mm, obviously. Just a typing error...

Just a little isolation. Other SL are more open and can be heard in the next room, but the 668b have some isolation - but they are semi-open so library listening probably not possible.

I've purchased one of this some time ago, for the price.....
They sound quite good for the price, but I find the highs very unnatural and dirty, the cymbals and other instruments sound weird they're almost noise.
Clarity soso, but for the price the rest is good, only the highs annoys me.

You need to tame the highs with EQ. Or if you want to go that route, a passive filter.

With some taming of the highs these are very capable headphones. I'm currently using -3dB 14k, -2dB 16k, -1dB 12k for the highs and a little bit of bass boost. Sounds way more natural.

Mine are also modded with some blutac to prevent the insides from resonating. I think this improved imaging, and midrange depth. But then again while tighter, there is further -3dB loss of bass with this mod.

Manage to change 3.5mm plug on the headphone side to 3.5mm socket.
I'm using this socket.

Here is the result.

Not the easiest MOD, need some time to cut and grind.
Need to sand down the socket to make it smaller and trim some rubber off in the headphone.
Very please with the outcome
