I was about to pull the trigger on Beyerdynamic 770 Pro 80ohm for gaming, but these popped up and messed with my shopping :)

I was having an argument with my brother about who wastes more money. And his line of attack was based on my headphone spending. Obvious.

So I thought it'd be nice to tot up how much i've spent in the last 3 years on headphones. Around 45 different headphones i've bought and listened to. I've spent a lot of time with quite a few of them aswell. I live in rip off britain, so nearly all the headphones were purchased at the standard internet price. No real deals about on anything great.

My most favourite buy- shure se315

My worst buy- beyerdynamic dt770 pro 80.

I remember talking to someone from beyer who gave me a right lesson. He laughed when I was expecting these to be great for music listening and said they do exactly what it says on the tin. Reading the product description on their website, I found him to be spot on 'headphone with an enchanced bass response for bass monitoring'

ANYWAY,
I've nearly had it with these akg guys. Reading the first post in this thread it's like 'new for 2011,' or, 'have you seen their new 2011 catalogue?' We'll be lucky to even see it in 2012 at this rate.

AKG is really a shadow of its former self, sadly. They used to be an incredibly inventive company. The days of the Sextetts, hybrid K340s, parabolic headphones, and K1000s are long gone though.

And while a lot of headphone companies are releasing new products that aren't as good as their older ones---Sennheiser's HD800 vs. their HE60 and HE90, Sony's SA5000 and Z1000 vs. the R10 and Qualia---the most disappointing of all is arguably AKG. At least those other companies are still releasing flagships and not simply re-tuning their existing mid-fi products under the name of some music celebrity endorsement.

It almost seems like they're actively trying to avoid releasing something that might appeal to audiophiles now.  The K550 looks like the most interesting thing they've come up with in a while, but its release must not be very high on their list of priorities.

It makes me especially sad when AKG stuff is co-branded as Harman on websites. And whatever happened to that K1000 successor that was promised? If the K550 was it, that's just a hilariously bad joke.

optional extra if the budget allows :D

I don't think AKG actually understands just how much money $1500 is and what it can buy or the market. (although sure advertising it to the avg consumer might at some level work...but um, if you spend 1.5k you'd hopefully google what sort of things that can get you)

The K3003 is their only audiophile headphone, but at least it's new, so I hope that it sells well and hopefully they can consider that piece of the market viable again and make something inventive in the future.

I can't agree with that, What's the purpose of releasing headphones when you already have acclamed ones? Just to get something new? Refreshing the lines? Most of people will buy one expensive headphone and keep it for years, it's not the smartphone market; so as long as they keep the same quality sound and build on their current highend headphones, I do not get why they should work on new ones every year / two years.

And for the K550 case, there must be a reason why it's that much delayed, I prefer having delayed headphones that comes with quality than rushed headphones which comes with defaults.
