Sounds great! I was thinking of getting another Audio Technica ESW10JPN for myself ever since my gf got one. Depending on the size, I'll probably grab a K550 myself.

PS: My sneaking favorite for relaxed hearing ... K501  .... not perfect as x701/702 but relaxing

PPS: Now I will spend some time for the K550 (after 4 hours burning in).

Hey FritzS,

Thanks for the impressions so far! Would you say the K550 looks good enough to wear outside? The K701 looks way too big and weird to wear outside in my opinion. If it is thinner on the sides, it might work out though.

The K550 seems to share similarities with the Ultrasone ED8 in form which is a good thing. I wonder how the K550 would look on smaller heads.

AKG K550

Ultrasone ED8

Good size comparisons but could we have some pictures comparing when worn on a head? Maybe that might be asking too much. A dummy head comparison could work too.

Seeing as how the K550 have 50mm drivers, it might have a really good potential for bass impact under a good EQ. I know the Ultrasone HFI-580 does. Both the basshead and the audiophile in me are getting excited.

A bit concerned about the earpads though.  I definitely prefer velour to leather and especially pleather.

FritzS, would you say the K550 soundstage is small or just smaller than the Q701?

The earpads are covered with a material looks like a very thin leather, its plasant. But I dont know what matrerial is this true. (I will inform me).

My opinion, its nearer, closer as the x701/701/501 soundstage. Detailed comparing to the D7000 is coming ....

@Fritz
So the K550 has full bodied bass and isn't as analytical sounding as the K701??? In your opinion would that be a fair description?

My opinion - K/Q701/702 series have a deep but dry bass
D7000 have a very deep, expressive bass (with Magic of Himalayas, Mystical sent, and their big drums, blowing air between my auricel and the earpads).
K550 have a "round", warm, bodied bass - also he is somewhere in the middle.

K550 have more bass than the K271 - K550 have a new 50mm driver, the K271/272 capsule is smaller.

Noooooo, not another bass-monster! Oh god, no!

If it's anything like an ED8, I'll rip my chest hair off (just the one).

Considering so many of the higher end AKG's are known for being bass shy I'm rather happy concerning the news. Let's hope they didn't go to far with the bass though.

Wow, I was thinking of buying the sennheisers hd 598, but these are easier to drive and closed back ( isolation is important because my sister is always noisy at home). Are these better than the sennheisers hd 598.

Truly truly hard to say. Not many have heard these.

So your sister got sick of the leakage from the sr009? :)
