Well I guess so lol. I for one didn't even particularly like the Sflo2 once I compared it to my Hifiman 601 and I still found the Sflo2 far superior to the Sansa fuze (even when using the Fuze via LOD with my UHA4 Amp) and comparing it to the T51 line out. But at the end of the day I still have the Fuze and not the Sflo2 so that goes to show you not always audio quality is taken into concern. I assume accuracy doesn't always stand for quality as well. Many of these "accurate players" exhibit a lot of digital artifacts which honestly isn't accurate as these artifact's were never intended to be in the original recording but is just a byproduct of the digital to analog conversion. This is where my problem is with some of "these accurate digital players". Accuracy doesn't always equate to realism.

If you're looking for accuracy the Clip+ destroys many of those "audiophile" players.

The most noticeable improvement you'll likely get over the Clip+ by itself with IEMs is to add an amp with a very low noise floor in between so you can get the better SNR it will offer at higher volumes but attenuated and buffered by the amp so you don't go deaf.

A DAP that didn't need that to kill the hiss with IEMs would be awesome but AFIK nothing that quiet with a low Z out suitable for driving IEMs exists.

the hiss from the clip is soooooooooooooooooooo minimal that even the slightest of music covers it up, and you really have to listen for it to begin with.  the only way to get the hiss really cooking is if I turn the volume up to beyond ear drum shattering levels

otherwise... yeah everything maverickronin said...

foobar, wasapi, easy-q, optical schiit bifrost, O2 amp - VS - rockboxed clip+  = no noticable difference - there very well may be a difference if i really strain to hear it, but if i have to strain that hard, i'm not interested.

sorry for hijacking this fun thread...

you know you're an audiophile when the biggest decision you made this year was what color your IEM shells would be.

I cant stand any hiss at all.  If I can hear it over the music its still acceptable for me to use but if I can find the right equipment I'll pay money so I don't even have to hear it between tracks or during fade outs.  If these numbers are right my Cowon is hair quieter than the Clip+ and I dislike the hiss on my Cowon.  That's why I love the O2.  Its dead quiet with hearing protectors on over my SE530s in the quietest room of my house.

As long as I can't hear it during playback I really don't mind. But I don't like it to be very audible either. With devices like the fuze I have to really pay attention to it to notice it. Same goes for the Hifiman 601 as its not as audible to me. Seems many blow it way out of proportion to how bad it is. Now the Studio V has more of an issue and its quite a bit more audible than the 601 but the sound is so good that I can overlook it. Also I have an impedance adapter to solve this issue waiting for me at the post office (along with my new IE80s . Now when I had my former ZO2 Version 1, that was maddening... Super loud hiss; thought there was a rattle snake in my room!

You guys know if there's another high capacity dap coming out? Apple hasn't made any announcements either.

You know you're an audiophile when you accept random calls from strangers asking for your opinion on various CIEMs early in the morning.

lol are you serious? People call you early in the morning for that stuff? I'd be livid lol. You know your an audiophile when you have a different IEM/headphone for different moods. Look into the ibasso DX100. I think it will have 64GB onboard memory and micro SD card support so that means 32GB cards and possibly those larger 64GB and 128GB cards down the road... Not to mention it is suppose to have the best DAC int he world (sabre).

... you use meaningless terms like "resolving" or "energetic"
... you think that tube amps sound better than SS, despite being worse in all measurable areas relative to cost
... you spend more than $100 on a cable for your speaker setup despite not having any room treatment at all

basically if you are ignorant with a lot of money

I do admit I'm probably more OCD about it than most...

Having read this whole thread I think the last thing on earth I'd want to call myself is an audiophile. I'm just a guy who loves listening to music and is willing to invest in equipment to make it sound as good as I can afford.

  1. when after each purchase you swear that you've reached audio nirvana (until your next purchase)
  2. when you give up reading classics on your kindle and manage to comprehensively read through every Head-Fi forum and all included threads.
  3. when you sacrifice your time with your spouse and children for 'quality' time on Head-Fi
  4. when you become an anomynous major benefactor to Head-Fi
  5. when life and Head-Fi become one and the same

...when you just got new bookshelf speakers but don't have any stands yet so they're just sitting on the floor, and in order to get in the sweet spot you've been laying down on the floor and propping your head up on a pillow. You neck and back are KILLING you, but you can't stop yourself from listening all night long because you're addicted to the music.
