Atrio X

There are several models predate the FS1. I didn't mention them because they are not relevant to the discussion of MG5 driver.

Wait, you left out the FS EM3s, which predated the FS1s.

Hey guys,
I don't know too much about all this, but I bought a pair of atrio MG7's a while ago (blown away by them) and notice that they have a group buying deal on http://www.atrio.me from http://www.takeitngo.com/ again.
I'm very interested and getting this for the mobile edition, but it is the atrioX (MG5)?
I will be using it on my iphone mainly so I wouldn't expect the quality to be as good, but what is the difference in quality exactly?
is it worth it?
I just found out about this, the deal is over in a day so I need to make a decision here...

This deal is ok, but not amazing. The Atrio X mobile can be purchased at jr.com for around $70 shipped (or less if you call them?). This deal will set you back $64 so there is no need to rush - shop around.

Here is my math - Atrio X mobile from atrio.me $99 + Shipping $10 + gift card cost $15 - gift card value $60 = $64.

I have the FS1 (I believe they are the same drivers) but not the MG7's so I can't really compare the two. The FS1 are pretty good - they have a good bass but lack a bit of detail.

I had the FS1 a long while back. Got it for $60 and I think that is about what they are worth. They are nice little phones. Can't recommend them over some of the new Xears at the $40 mark. Or phones like the CC51. Would have been better if they put the latest MG5 driver in them. They really need to check the competition. It is not really new product and at the $79 price point they are decent sounding but middle of the road for SQ these days.

Have you used the X?  I have a pair burning in now and their sound is outstanding and getting better every time I use them.  Supposedly they need like 100 to reach their potential so I'm not calling them the be-all and end-all quite yet because I've only got 50 so far but they have opened up quite a bit and sound fantastic in the under $100 price range.  I've literally tried all of the headphones that are bass-oriented under 120 bucks and these things have been my favorite by quite a wide gap.  I've also ordered a pair of the new MG7 drivered Atrio Pros so we'll see how they really stack up on Tuesday when they arrive.

But unless you've actually tried them, and given them 100 hours, I'm not sure how you can say they are priced too high and are only decent sounding.  Maybe you have...but near as I can tell, I'm the only one on these boards that has an pair.  I'd just hate for someone to make comments on what they perceive to be the case because the headphones might use a slightly older driver.  I can't find any documentation on Future Sonics website that specifically says it's their older driver and that they are just trying to move inventory.  They may have even modified the M5 again (which would now be version 3).  So who knows.  I just know they sound good in my ears.

I thought they were going to be the last driver and posted them as a great deal in the deal thread. ClieOS mentioned it. I believe the last version driver is 18 - 20,000 FR and the old driver and the X are 20-20,000 FR. Feel free to ask Futuresonics to confirm the driver version. I would like to be proved wrong  again and go back to my first assessment of the X.

I actually emailed FS and they didn't reply. Regardless, the market has moved so fast now, a lot of things are not what they used to be. Atrio rev2 is a good deal when it hit the market (most dealer sold it @ $150~180 or so back then, like the MG7 now), but I won't expect to pay the same today. If Atrio X is indeed MG5 pro like the rev2, it is still a decent deal at around $100 (MSRP) but not so much if it is over that.

BTW, the original Atrio and rev2 use the same driver, as far as I know. The improvement of treble comes from somewhere else.

Well, someone else emails FS about the driver please?

Yeah...whatever driver they are using is well worth it at the 70-80 dollar street price.  I seriously doubt they'd be using the first generation MG5 drivers, but I put in an email to FS to see if I can actually get a response.  Either way, I love my Atrio Xs...and I'm not sure the Atrio Pros I've got coming today will change that...but I've been wrong before.

I'm looking forward to the comparison as I have both MG5 and MG7 Atrios and know the difference in sound.  I have a hunch the Atrio X may outperform the Atrio v2's due to driver tuning or perhaps something inside the housing, but you never know...

...unless you buy them both!  *%$@! head-fi!

First of all, sorry to revive an older thread...

I bought Atrio X from Overstock's Cyber Monday deal ($55), first impression, not good...big bass (we all know that), very recessed mid (worse than CC51's recessed), and highs that is so full with sibilance, yet its not as bright nor sparkly as my older M8 (FS1), it was just barely bearable.

My old Atrio M8 sounds so much better than this, and yet the MG5 driver is supposed to sounds better than FS1 driver...

I have started mechanical burn in and will use it every night to get brain burn in, let see if it helps...

The bass should calm down and also become tighter. The mids and highs will come out more. I have the older Atrio MG5 and this is the course they followed when I burned them in for 50-75hrs.

They also work best with the stock foam tips, the mids and highs come out more and the sound stage is bigger.

Please keep us posted - I am very interested in buying these since the MG7s are a wee bit out of my price range, but these are very comfortably priced for me.

No worries will keep you guys posted, my old M8 did require some burn in before they become superb (for bassheads especially) but I didn't remember they sounded as bad as the X out of the box

There is no chance that I can use the stock foam (won't sit well in my canal, it never worked for me even with my old M8), I tried with olives tonight but does not help (though it gives me almost perfect seal), comply helps with the sibilance but then it becomes pretty muddy

Will post an update in a few days after about 100 hours, will start off with mechanical burn in because there is no chance I can do mental burn in at the moment, can't stand it at all

Break em in.  Every Atrio version I've ever heard sounded like crap out of the box and took ~100 hours to approach maturity.
