youre right. im actually starting to enjoy them. they sound like they should. the singer is up front. the drummer is behind. the gutiar and bass are in between. its how a headphone is supposed to sound, and my ears are getting used to it. in audophile world, flat is the way to be.

That's pretty much where I am. I'm relistening to a lot of my metal collection and hearing it in a new, but not unpleasant, light. Whether or not headphones are supposed to sound this way I don't know and don't really care. I'm getting a new listening experience that I'm enjoying and surely this is always the point to getting a new pair of headphones.

Hi everyone, while listening to certain songs with the HD598 I hear a "whoosh" (Sound like a "ssssssssssssssssssssssshh" )
For example, in the very begin of these two songs:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZwxYmbGiVR8
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wm54XyLwBAk&ob=av2n

I know that youtube quality sucks, but I can hear it in a lot of FLAC files (44.1kHz - 800 to 1200 kbp/s)

It's a problem of my headphones or its a problem of the song that just got recorded badly? Or maybe converted badly?

I have a pair of HD598 with an Auzentech X-Fi Forte 7.1

Thanks you :)

Essentially, if you were to put the Cmoy in the mix you'd have 2 volume controls, and that's bad.

There's no need for a Preamp when you final amp in the chain has its own volume control.

What is Line Level? Like no Potentionmeter? I plan to use the cmoy for portable rig so I am just wondering.

And it's completely normal right? But, it doesn't bother you sometimes?

Shibiliance is often in the recording. Speakers may alleviate or exacerbate the issue by emphasizing or deemphasizing the frequencies by which people sing S's. It can be irritating.

  1. @thebmeat yes, but we would actually recommend 558 for a fuller, more aggressive sound. these are very neutral, 558 is a hair more exited

Mike over at Headfonia.com says that the 558 modded starts to have the same sound as the 598 but with more fuller bass.  Now I'm more confused on what to go for.  I had already fallen in love with the HD 598s gorgeous looks.  =/

Thanks! I guess my cmoy will be a portable only amp and my current amp till I get the rest of my setup. This may seem like a DIY section but is 2 9V batteries overkill for HD598?

He later makes an updated post mentioning that there is in fact a difference between the modded 558 and the 598. He even realizes that he prefers the unmodded 558 to the modded 558 (b/c the mod loosens the bass a little). The 598 is going to be technically better.

At least the bass can be easily EQ'd up. I'm working out the kinks on a Foobar2000 eq profile for bass right now.

Hmm, didn't see that.  That's a +1 there.

+2

It seems the HD 598 is the better headphone then of course.
