Sennheiser HD 600 Impressions Thread

Yayy! Haha people probably have noticed how I've been on this appreciation thread recently.

I'm finally a Sennheiser owner - again (after the sold HD202 haha)! And this time I am on the top, well, at least pretty close!

So happy!! Oh btw don't kick me out of the appreciation thread just because I don't have the HD600. In fact like I said, I was saving up for a pair of new HD600 by the end of the year, but I saw that deal and I remember you guys saying the 580 and the 600 are very alike, so I pretty much bought it impulsively. Going to lend it to a friend after my holidays however, since I need valid reasons to purchase (lol) and I did really quite bad in my exams recently... Guess that would be some motivation?

So, what should I be expecting? Can't wait already. Since I have the E7 already so I might go the cheap way and start with a E9. But that will be after the semester have finished...

If the 580=600~650 in terms of SQ, does that mean it is above the new 5xx series?

In terms of overall quality, yes it should be better than 5xx. But rather than focusing on "better" quality you should go after what you prefer. 580/600 are smooth and neutral while 5xx are upfront and exciting. I see that you have a Grado avatar. If you're into Grado's exciting sound you might prefer the 558/598 over the 600.

oh i was pretty sure i was looking for a more laid back and grand sound. Otherwise I would have just gotten another grado, or an ultrasone.

Im still in the stage of searching my favourite sound signature, or actually its starting to become experimenting and using them depending on my mood. I had a lot of love for my mates d2000 but decided to go for something a bit different

Thanks for the warning tho. Its true there arent any soley better phones than each other.

Aha! I won't pass any final judgement yet.
Need to hear them both on my desktop amp.
These are just my initial findings.

I may just have the same opinion as you once I return home in a couple weeks.
Haven't listened to my HF2s in about 4 months.

lootbag, I guess its just a case of different strokes for different folks because I can't really listen to the hf2s after the hd600s :)

For $125 he'll have no problem selling for the same amount if not more so can't say it was a bad decision. I would jump on that deal even though I already have the 600.

I found someone on NY craigslist selling the 580 for $285. He claims they are in mint condition lol

If these are hd580 Jubilees, it would be a different story :) I would jump on a mint condition one for that price.

He did say well condition, and took a couple of pics with his phone.

Hope it ends up good. Where can I get new screens/pads etc?

I think you'll like them.  I've owned the HD595 and now the HD600...too me there's no comparison the 600 >>>>>> 595.  I've also listened extensively to the HD650/800 and still prefer the 600.  I can tell you I also own Grado cans and it's why I initially went with the 595's.  I like exciting sound but even for a neutral can I think the 600s are incredible.  I hate "neutral" like sounds (e.g. AKG 701/702) but I find the 600s are a blast and very detailed.

Happy listening! :)

Does anyone have any replacement earpads and/or headpads for sale?  Alternatively, where can I find them cheap?  I really don't want to have to shell out $60+ for replacements from Senn USA :frowning2:

Try B&H and eBay, but honestly I'd rather get from Sennheiser or Headroom. When I got mine most of the eBay sellers were UK-based, which means they were selling at about $68 and then you'd ship them from across the Atlantic, so you'd end up paying more. Although sometimes US-based sellers have them, just search eBay.

m3ta1head, I saw you owning both the HD600 and the D2000. What do you think about both of them?

I owned the D2000 and both the HD580 and HD600 at the same time.  Found the bass on the D2000 to be far too much for my taste and decided to sell.

D2000 are booming (I've listened to them before).  D7000 on the other hand...awesome compliment to the HD600 :)

I'm in the same situation, my pads are more than 3 years old and are pretty flat. From my short time researching it seems like 50-60 is the norm =(

Just got my HD 600s (650 cable) out for the first time in a month (since i bought a pair of Pro900s) and i've definitely fell back in love with certain aspects of them. They don't come anywhere near the bass / detail / soundstage of the Pro900s but the mids are given much more focus and it makes some really enjoyable listening to female vocal tracks. I suppose it depends on the mood you are in....
Still think i'm gonna stick them up for sale when i can be bothered for a pair of LCD-2s which i'm hoping will be a good replacement. I've definitely enjoyed the year i've had these!
