GRADO GR10: Reviews, First Impressions Thread

We also don't know if the transitioning silver nozzle with vent is the identical driver to the gold. I recall when I had my original version, that I considered venting but was a bit to concerned about messing them up to actually try it. I've experimented with it on some PL50s and and M1s to some success but also found that the vent size was quite critical on both. The GR10 was already too good and costly to just mess with for fun.

I'm never too afraid to try things (apart from cutting open my in ears), so i tried modding my existing earpieces to sound better and fit better on the GR10e's.

First i tried drilling out a larger hole to fit the entire metal part in them.
This failed.

Then i simply cut off the ear canal part.

This is what's left:

and so these are my custom tipped GR10e's now:

Pros:
-bass improved
-GR10e don't stick out of my ears
-less weird looking
-sounds better than with default jelly tips
-fits better than default jelly tips

Cons:
-sharp edges where cut off
-maybe made them just slightly too short

Here's what they originally looked like:

So now i need to have some new ones made (these are about 11 months old) to my new specifications.
Thanks, willyvlyminck, for the idea!

Had a bit of a chat about this with Thomas Tsai on a still-unpublished OHM AIR. And today spent all day working in the garden with them in. I'm unconvinced that a better (holistic) universal exists.

How the new GR10e's compare to the Alclair RSM's? Thanks in advance!

Great build, lack of fatigue from sound or fit, convenience of size and easy to deal with cable along with sound quality make it a very attractive package and the 'e's are freindlier and more extended sounding. The only negative vs the original is that isolation is a few db worse due to the vent. Easy enough to plug the hole for a bit if more important for a situation.

Ho ho ho. I have the 2nd version of the GR10, no the GR10e, but if I pick up the latter, I will let you know. I love the RSMs precisely because they remind me so much of the 2nd version of the GR10. A custom GR10 I've been searching for for a long time.

I'm a newbie to the site....

Just picked up a pair Grado GR10. First impressions are great but, not outstanding. I know they will require some burn in time. However, given the reviews I was expecting a little more.

Which leads me to think there is perhaps more that can be done with regards to a portable Dac?

I am currently using these with my iPad 4 Retina display plus an iPad Touch. What options are there for a good portable Dac to work with these devices?

Also, have read good reviews regarding Meridian Explorer 2 Dac, can this device work with the iPad? Woukd this be a good match for the GR10?
