Back on track, i really like the t1. You young guys may consider that those clever Germans are voicing things for the age group that THEY believe have cash to burn, hence the younger ones hearing the hot treble. Older guys that THEY think can afford these headphones suffer from high frequency hearing loss
Valve amps just add distortion. Like or loath it, its a fact. I reckon hi-fi means no distortion. SS leaves you with the horrible facts AKA the truth. If you want to calm your T1 down its most likely your hearing is better than those crafty Germans thought it might be. And your better off with a set of headphones that suit you better.
 
TBH, I think that you guys that are powering your T1's with valve amps are just trying to change the beast that your not really getting on with.

Man, thanks for the suggestion. I'll try your hypothesis of taming the beast with a valve amp by hooking my wife to the LaFigaro 339 this evening. Will report (if I live, that is).

But on a serious note, valve or SS, as long as it turns out to you liking, I think it does not matter. The important thing is you get the best sound that suits you, your music, and your own ears (compromised or not).

My BH Crack and T1 combo works well on my own (and very much loved) Wailing Banshee! Plug her in and you wont hear a peak out of her for hours. Solid state never worked this kind of magic.

I upgraded to T1 from hd650. I use a WA2 and the difference was huge, Detail was the most obvious. I was afraid that the T1 would be bass light compared to the hd650. The T1 has great bass with the WA2. I eventually sold the HD650 about a month ago. The T1 does absolutely everything better. I don't know if it is good with the Lyr though - it might deserve something a bit more upscale but ask around, you might get away with it. I know if you don't match the T1 with the right amp it can sound terrible.  
 
I listen to a lot of classical as well - Dvorak, Mahler, Sibelius. The T1 sounds amazing with classical music. I have Hd800 and still use the T1 a lot for classical listening sessions.

Sennheiser will sound rolled-off if you like beer T1 sound signature. I tested HD650, HD800 all with substantial amplification and they all sound dark & recessed compared to the Beyer. Some prefer that kind of warm, "organic" house sound. I also tested HD800 hooked up to Alo Studio 6, a very well-specced tube amp. I also auditioned Beyer with the Alo. The HD800 sound too dark compared to the T1 but has significantly larger soundstage than T1. I think HD800 is great for large orchestra pieces, those trebly Bach violin set pieces and yes, Michael Bay movies

I tried this and it did not work - it actually backfired on me.  The only thing that the little exercise did was to make her really notice the amp, and then she asked, "how much was that thing"? 

  When I told her the price she removed the RCA cables I had attached to her arm and she stormed out of the room.

+1 - i was wondering where he was going with that, the HD800 is less aggressive at least with WA2.  I love both and am picking up the T1 a lot these days. Sometimes its hard to choose between the 2. I am listening to George duke now on the T1, sounds great, nice bumpy bass.

Well said, that is exactly how I would describe the differences between the HD800 & T1.

I think it depends, on trumpet and saxophone tracks the T1 is brighter and the HD800 darker and with vocal (not always) tracks its the other way around.
