HifiMAN HE-6 Planar Magnetic Headphone

I just hooked up an HE-6 to an integrated amp through the speaker taps and I'm completely blown away. I've always thought that it would be impossible for me to like anything more than the HD800 but I was wrong. The HE-6 is something special when powered properly. Wow is all I can say.

Anyone enjoys the HE6 through the Woo WA5? It seems some like the sound (ALRAINBOW and Frank I, as I recall) but some do not (e.g. the Headfonia.com reviewer).

I understand that the HE6 has a low sensitivity below 90 db which is lower than the sensitivity of speakers than those the WA5 are recommended to drive. I've also read that there's distortion / compression in dynamic music passages.

Your thoughts are welcome!

The HE-6 and HD 800 are voiced so differently, it's almost like comparing apples and oranges.  The HE-6 is my "go to" body can.  The HD 800 is the master of sound stage and separation of musical voices.  It is clear that they are both excellent at what they do and they are excellent at complimenting one and other.

I often wonder how many people have heard the HE-6 properly amped.  That issue is its biggest weakness/problem.

I have heard better than these two cans, but I doubt that I will ever own the Orpheus--and a (near equally expensive) rig necessary to power and feed it.

right now i'm thinking the HE-6 can really meet all my needs, its a fantastic all rounder, like the Beyerdynamic T1 or the HE-500, just hard to drive, but much better sounding.

only other headphone that i can think of that can do that is the X. but i don't really wanna try it now since i know its pretty much just an improved LCD-2 meaning it could still use a little more treble.

i really like how the HE-6 does bass as well.

I have the HE-500 on loan from a friend of mine. I am so blown away at how much better it sounds compared to my HD800 (more body, richer, smoother, more coherent, even response, nothing standing out from the rest of the spectrum, everything just sounds more natural) that I just ordered the HE-6. If it sounds even better than the HE-500 through adequate amplification then I will be in heaven :)

i prefer hd 800 to HE-500, but the he-500 is certainly very special. now the HE-6, i think its better than HD 800 in many ways. of course, the HD 800 is equally impressive, just in different ways, and i prefer the HE-6 as an all rounder.

yes!!

the HE-6 gives you everything the HE-500 is missing. only thing the HE-500 is nicer is forgiving warmth, but the HE-6 when well powered is very smooth as well, with very good treble, and much better bass. transparency and detail are a step above the HE-500 and really bring it to the top level.

i can see why people consider the HE-6 as "SR-009 like", just incredible clarity.

and right now, it works for every genre i throw at it. electronic and vocals are where the HE-6 excel, as well as rock, pop, and just about everything else. it has speed, bass, detail, balance, depth, and body, just about everything i could ask for.

like i said before, an "Ortho T1"

The review with the WA5 is a mistery , it just makes no sense. Now was the amp stock or upgraded. As there is big difference if upgraded. Second itoints to the fact this is all subjective too. I remember the first day I put those cans on my head. It was so bright I said , what the heck is every saying this is good. Well that was because the amp I had was just in no way suitable for the headphones . It reading in this post and the amps for headphones that I learned what I really needed. I have not tried any mods as I just to not have to do so or care really. If I had someone near maybe just to hear, but no big deal. Over this weekend I want to make time to do a head to head with the stax009. And the HE6. Again. And I will post my thoughts .

not too long ago people were talking about how he-6 were good with metal music. another genre where the he-6 excel is electronica. particularly trance, psytrance and goa trance music.  it's clarity and incredible airiness combined with also incredible bass makes it a phenomenal can for trance lovers. and not to forgot the soundstage.

you d'ont need a spaceship to go in another galaxy. he-6 will take you there without having to leave your favorite chair.
