While trying to exercise utmost care in transporting some of my precious 6DJ8 I still manged to drop one today. It fell from about 1 m to my hard wooden floor.

However it did not seem to be harmed at all and does perfom well with the amp right now. Has somebody experience dropping a tube and if yes - how was the result ? Hope I may be lucky and nothing happened. How much of a chance for this ? If it has not an immediate effect what may I expect in the long run and how could a defect - if any - be detected as early as possbile ?

dropped a few in my time - small tubes like the 6DJ8's are pretty resilient and if it works just fine, I wouldn't be too concerned. If they crack ( as did one of my siemens 12ax7's

) they let you know - the getter changes to white indicating oxidization. Many people stored tubes in big bins and just let them rattle about ..dB

1x5998 and 1x6H33C. Pretty resilient buggers. They were also very slippery when trying to wriggle them out of tight ceramic tube sockets with a pair of gloves on

Yeah, that is a bummer. But we have ALL dropped tubes. I usually test them again if dropped, but I have actually never dropped one and had it be a problem.

Never dropped one onto concrete though

I dropped a 6080WB about 4' onto a tile Floor. I watched it fall out of the Box in Slo Mo. All the way down to the Floor. Landed and made a hell of a noise!! Very solid noise. No problems at all, I was just as surprised as you were. I expected a Zillion shards of Glass!

The varieties of religious experience! Yes, and no damage, ever. Nonetheless, I bought a used carpet as a partial solution. It looks great....but it acts like camouflage and hides stuff. Now you have to ask me i ever stepped on a tube (or pair of glasses) and what happened!
