Here are some pictures of the prototype of Ray Samuels' new tube amp. Tuberoller took all of the pictures. My contribution is the addition of the CD case for judging relative size.

This is the front view of the amp sitting on the power supply. Look at what is in the background and drool.

Another shot from behind

There will be metal rings encircling each tube on the production version adding a stepped effect.

Here are some of the details about what is inside:

It has 4 inputs selectable via a rotary switch with no point to point wiring. Two outputs to run two separate power amps as a Hi definition tube line stage preamp. A tube headphone amp to drive headphones. There will be a dedicated separate regulated power supply. Both are to be housed in an anodized aluminum chassis. It will be Class A with no feed back. All resistors are film 1 watt H2 Holcos. All capacitors were polypropylene Hovland MusiCaps. The one optional component will be a stepped attenuator for volume control. I have heard it with Sennheiser HD-600, Sony CD3000 and Grado RS-1's and it handled them all with ease. The tubes were one 12AX7, two 6SN7's. I listened to the prototype for a short while and was able to A/B it against the Wheatfield HA-2. In my short time comparing them they were very close, the prototype amp exhibiting a little more detail to my ears. The Wheatfield had very nice NOS tubes while the prototype was outfitted with Russian Sovteks. Everything is mounted to the PC board with no point to point wiring. The background was also dead quiet. I will try and get a picture of the prototype

Nice. Though in the words of Ppl, "No feedback? How'd you do that?!"

(Amps without feedback have a crapload of issues. You generally need at least local feedback; anyone who says "no feedback" in all likelyhood means "no global feedback".)

I could describe how this amp sounds in XXX terms and they still might not convey the emotions fully.

Do you know how many steps the attenuator is?
