Thanks for the interesting link, Rebski. I've got to read through the whole ACS thread, but I've been thinking about custom tips for some of my IEMs for a long time (or even a total re-molding, in case of the SE530). Are the ACS tips removable, or permanently attached to the IE8? I have to see if my local audiologist/hearing-aid specialist can make me some tips like these.

When I was researching IEMs last April I almost memorised your chart off by heart, it was that helpful. It was this very thread that persuaded me to buy the IE8s in the end though.

People have varying experiences with custom moulds which made me hesitate. All of the factors in their favour just add up. They settle the comfort issue once and for all, they provide the best seal that it is possible to achieve and the SQ presentation tightens up with particular benefit in the bass extension, definition and control. I can find no trade-off whereby other aspects are deteriorated. Finally, the ACS moulds are like glorified tips in that they are removable if the need requires.

I maintained a burn in log up to 700 hours and your observations would be more discerning and articulate than mine. If you feel inclined to post them here, I am sure many of us would enjoy the read.

I'm sort of rediscovering my IE8's yet again. I decided to break out the big bag o' tips, and sit down to critically compare. I'd been using the UE single flange silicone tips for a long time, thinking I'd heard them as the best in terms of SQ... but in going through Senn's included ones, I got out the double flanges. I remembered they were pretty good and a viable option if the UE tips had ever been lost. Well in swapping back and forth between these tips, I was finding I like the double flanges better (med). I was hearing a little brightening of the treble, which is needed. This slight increase in the high end, along with the purchase of the ALO Rx and Lil' Knight mini to mini cable, is really helping overall with what I have considered their weaknesses- namely that darkness on the top end.

Not to mention foamies don't have flanges - they're foamies... Midnight walker, could you clarify your statement please?

Agreed, clarification! The bi-flanges are only silicone, and the foams are just solid shaped, no bi-flange foams.

Just got IE8s, second hand, fully burned in.
An original set is way beyond my budget (especiaally in my area). Been enjoying it for the past few hours!
So far only the small normal tips fit well, the rest are loose.

Bass knob set to max- reclaiming all the bass that I could not get with my livewires trips.

Sorry if its been asked before, but has anyone heard both the IE6 and the IE8? I'm really curious to hear these 'phones, but the bass adjustment thing isn't a big deal to me and if the 6's are basically the same but without that feature then I might go for those instead.

I have a bad (for my bank account) feeling that the 8's are significantly better though.

I spent my whole day at work being productive by reading this thread which answered all my questions and now I've ended up ordering some from Amazon.

I really don't have the money for this forum. Is it bad that I'm hoping I won't like them so that I will be able to send them back for a refund? You people are killing me.

I feel sorry for your wallet

Also, I hope you like em so you can stop buying headphones, but we both know this is very unlikely to happen.

Welcome to all of the new IE8 owners. It's nice to see a new round of owners and impressions.

Crackerman, I haven't listened to IE6 but by all accounts its not even close to IE8. IE7 on other hand is somewhat comparable and has many satisfied owners, some who even prefer it, though they seem to be in the minority.
