Nothing your Discman can't do. That's my impression after hearing the Cosmic- reference module with the etymotic 4s. It sounded exactly like my discman with the volume turned up way high. Even if there's a tiny improvement it's not worth carrying the huge heavy thing for. What's the deal?

Did you connect the Cosmic to the Discman's line-out?

Perhaps you don't hear a difference. Just think how lucky you are not having to go broke continually upgrading components!
I don't know how long you've had the amp, but perhaps with more time you will begin to hear the difference. At first it will seam like a small difference but soon you will be willing to pay big bucks to hear that miniscule improvement!
Try not to focus on the traditional bass, mids, highs thing and listen to the message, rythym and tempo of the music.
The Etymotic ER4s is not hard to drive so the improvement with an amp is less than some other phones.
Perhaps you would do just as well with a lesser and more portable amp such as the Porta Corda or Meta 42 and save some green.

Try listening to your Ety's at a lower volume and you may hear how the amp distorts.

At least that's what I hear with Ety's on a not so good amplifier.

Of-course I used the line out. As for the amp I sent it back for a refund. On the one hand I'm dissapointed, and on the other I'm glad, because I know I have the best sound available (or near to) without wasting the money on an amp, and having to carry it around. I'm relieved and happy. The only thing that I would upgrade to now would be something like a 2-bit DAC CD walkman from Sony or maybe a DAT player.

It was a very subjective comment, guys, maybe the CD player he has is very good and has a very good opamp at the output and do not requires an amp to sound very good, the Etys are very good headphones and high efficient, or maybe the sound improvement is so subtle to to his ears, or they sound so similar that DO NOT WORTH TO CARRY THAT WEIGHT, is what he say in fact.
In my case, I have a nice speaker amp, and I will try pretty soon the new V2 Gilmore amp, but till now all the amps I had try (just a couple) sound worst than my Amp Two main amp, I will let you know if the Gilmore makes the difference....I hope so!!!!

Very true. It could also be that the source is not good enough to allow one to notice a difference or it could just be that Britany sounds better unamplified

Amps do nothing

Either:

1. Your discman has an exceptionally good headphone-out. What make/model is it? Start the latest Head-Fi stampede

!
2. The Cosmic is a POS. Not likely, but... The brief listen I had using A-T 2002's was not too impressive though. However it was not extensive enough to accurately assess the attributes of either the HF or amp.
3. You need more practice getting a seal with the (amazing) ER4S's. When they are in correctly, a quality amp does indeed make a difference.
4. You are trolling with a thread title like that.

3 things:

**Lack of critical listening experience

**Lack of equipment

**Lack of patience
