I am considering a new I/V output stage for my 1862 DAC. Currently it uses a opa275 for the I/V and another for the buffer. The case on my DAC is small otherwise I would get the Borbelo Audio FET I/V kit as it looks much better than the Zapfilter on paper. Is the Zapfilter a big improvement over a good opamp like the OPA627 ?

Absolutely. I put the zap in all my cd players. The Zap is one of the best bang for the buck improvements I have come across.

Have you used it with a current out DAC.

The reason I ask is I've seen good reports from Zhalou owners but those a voltage DAC's and they're only using half the Zapfilter (no I/V.)

Zapfilter ROCKS, plain and simple. Such a (relatively) cheap upgrdade with very large bang-for-thebuck results.

It's a very good analog stage but the Burson discrete op-amps are just as good for one third the cost.

The review on the Burson opamps at TNT said they were terrible for I/V.

Is there any way to adjust gain on the Zapfilter ?

The Zapfilter is a phenominal product. It completely transformed my Zhaolu into a very dynamic, engaging DAC. The bass is fantastic too. The best couple hundred bucks you could ever spend on your source.

Please tell me this INCLUDES the price of the Zhaolu, not that the ZapFilter is hundreds by itself.

The zapfilter is $214 but that includes a powersupply. It is actually the cheapest discrete I/V + Filter + buffer I have seen short of building one from scratch.

I have two concerns with it:

1. The only good reviews I can find are using half the board (voltage DAC's), I question its I/V stage for current output DAC's. It may be fantastic but I don't know.

2. It seems too universal. I don't see how it can give a 2V rms output with all DAC's. I am guessing with some DAC's it has too much gain and others not enough.

I had my Denon 3910 player modded with the Zap, it has Burr Brown 1796 current out DACS. The sound was phenomenal.
