My description of the 325 stated above was with the flat pads!

With the bowls, you'll go deaf. Kinda like how looking too long at the sun for too long will blind you

Say WHAT!? There is no way they can be that bright. Flat pads on my old SR225 was too warm and bit muddy sounding for me, so how bright 325 can be if even flatpads cant cure it...

They are, atleast to me, anyway. With bowls, they are unbearable for longer than a few minutes at best at any but the lowest volumes. With flats, they are tolerable for perhaps 20 minutes or so, at low volumes. If you listen at moderate levels, way too bright. Which is probably why they felt the need to tweak them with the 325i, which is bright enough in it's own right.

I owned all three at various points (225,325 & 325i). The 325 is far, far brighter than the 225, by a long stretch.

I know for a fact that my hearing is down a bit at higher frequencies and that may be the reason I like the 325 so much.

I had the RS2 to compare them with but find the 325 the better cans for me...
tongue.gif

I find 'm more fun to listen to although I also thought the RS2 was maybe a little better, but just not for me.
Maybe you should try to visit engine rooms without hearing protection more like I did when I was younger...

I had enjoyed these cans a lot when I was reviewing them some weeks ago and they made a lasting impression on me.
I tried some other cans that where available to me but liked these the best.

Reasons 5-10: Way too bright

BTW, the 325 is brighter than the 325i.

Some definitions of bright, glad you agree

1. Glorious; splendid: one of the bright stars of stage and screen; a bright moment in history.
2. Full of promise and hope; auspicious: had a bright future in publishing.
3. Happy; cheerful: bright faces.
4. Animatedly clever; intelligent.
5. High and clear: the bright sound of the trumpet section.

My SR325I’ are my preferred cans too, funny though I do not see them in your signature

I really liked mine, but even after burn-in, they were very bright. Even at low volume listening, I was developing ringing in my ear, and I believe that the frequency response of these cans was the cause. I reluctantly had to sell them at a slight loss.

Hopefully you have better luck w/ the 325's than I did and you can rock out w/ them for many years to come.

I understand now what you mean...

I made the mistake to audition the headphones I had on hand with some favorite good recordings.
blink.gif

This morning I'm listening to Roger Waters "The Wall" and I agree the highs are way to excessive!
The highs are excessive on this recording but the 325's makes them nearly unbearable, especially in "Nobody home"
plainface.gif

I'm lucky enough to have a good relationship with my local dealer so I can always trade them in with no losses for say an RS2.

Dang I got bored of critical listening to cans and just wanted to enjoy my music...
Seams I can't stop!

I made the mistake to audition the phones I had mostly with good sounding recordings.
very_evil_smiley.gif

I really liked the Grado sound because of the fun they seem to extract out of the recordings.
tongue.gif

One can hardly say they're dull sounding phones, can one..?
tongue.gif

I figured that the 325's where fun to listen to, and that the RS2 had not much of an adge over them.
How wrong I was!
After this morning playing Roger Waters "The Wall, live in Berlin" on cd, I know what's wrong with the 325's...
The highs can make things bearably unlistenable when the highs are recorded somewhat agressive.
evil_smiley.gif

I like to listen on a fairly loud level, and I can tell you it was near unbearable!
mad.gif

Then I tried some songs from the Red Hot Chili Peppers from they're album "Blood sugar Sex Magic" and came to the same conclusion...
rolleyes.gif

I traded the 325 for the RS2 again and "Nobody Home" was just listenable.
The highs on that recording are awfull I think, and the RS2 makes 'm just bareable, but just...
This might sound better with an Senn HD600/650, I don't know...
wink.gif

I'm sticking to the RS2 I think because I listen to a lot somewhat less well recorded albums/songs.
I still think when you listen to mostly nice recorded music the 325 is a valid choice.
When partnered with the right equipment I guess.
But for me, I go with the RS2, even if it costs so much more...

I do feel a little stupid now though...

omg, I just bought the last sealed 325 from Larry over at Headphile. I started reading and I'm shocked by your last post. I really really hope I like these. I'm too facinated to not open these ones. Also did you try the 325 with an amp? did it help out at all if u did?

Hi,
I listened to them straight out of an Sony SACD player, and then the difference between the 325 and the RS2 was not so big with well recorded music.
I actually liked the sound of the 325 very much, so much even I bought the one I had at my home for review...
I also listened to them with an Creek OBH21, and again with the better recordings, I really liked them.
But as you already know, after buying them I started to listen to all my normal kind of recordings, good and bad.
And that's when I decided to spring for the RS2, they are just somewhat more polite when the recording isn't as good as you would like...
Mind you I'm talking about the treble on the bad recordings, that I find almost unbearable withe the 325...
Maybe partnered with the right amp the problem will be solved.

Put a flat pad on it and you'll have all the bass you need

I used to own the MS2's and really enjoyed the sound but I had problems with them staying put due to the weight of the aluminum when I was relaxing. Looking at the new MS2i's or SR325i's, the housing looks smaller. Are the 325i's any lighter than the older 325's?

Apr 6, 2007 at 9:19 PM Post #44 of 47
No; I'm afraid not. As a matter of fact they are even a couple of gm heavier.

Only a couple.

The new headband is wider though.

the 325's are really detailed. you can hear everything and more than you ever knew was there, maybe more than the artist even knew was there. but it takes more than detail to win.

same reason strapping a rocket engine to the top of a car doesnt really work. it goes really fast, but we look for more than speed in a car. it also has to stay on the road, not fly, not melt the roof and our faces into a big jelly doughnut

with headphones, we dont want our violin strings sounding like altoid tins strung with titanium strings. but im not a 325 hater. i think they have nice detail
