In the last few months I’ve sent vacuum tubes to 2 different people from Head-Fi to evaluate or buy and I’ve never heard back from the members.

It’s about $300 worth of old stock vacuum tubes. The members approached me and asked about the tubes. I went out of my way to help and provided the tubes shipped at my expense. I’ve never heard back from either individual.

I wonder if these people have a conscience? I’ll post appropriate Negative Feedback in the Feedback forum.

I post this because I wish to continue in the true spirit of support and camaraderie that Is Head-Fi. I’ve dealt with a lot of people here on Head-Fi and have been treated exceptionally well by the members up to this point. Some of the members are so generous with their stuff that it's inspiring.

Good damn, these people are crooks and stupid. Sure they got some tube for free, but then again they will certainly loose the good love and support of friendly people here at head-fi. And it is such a helping and cool forum, they will certainly loose in the long run. Sorry for that BrailleDiver

fortunatly there is a majority of cool and trustable people here at head-fi, let it be that way,

Sad to hear but I guess inevitable with so many forum members, there's always going to be a few who are less than stellar in how they treat others generosity. I hope you get your stuff back.

*edit*
I have to add that thankfully everyone I've dealt with here has been first class.

Things have been going slightly downhill for some time, and it's entirely due to growth I guess. The more people that are involved the more bad apples we'll see as time goes by. The for sale forums aren't nearly what they used to be, I remember so many truly great deals back when I first joined that you just don't see anymore. Any time I've ever sold a piece of gear I list it at a very reasonable price with the intention of paying forward the generosity I've received. Nobody trusts those prices though and so now I consistently get lowball offers. Not just the kind where you finagle things by a few dollars but where the buyer wants you to take an extra 20% loss. I feel like listing stuff at $10 under retail just so some lowballer can feel proud of himself.

What's the solution? I guess just give in to the changes around here and stop being so damn generous. Either that or continue to set the example and simply leave the feedback for cheaters. You know they aren't going much further around here with that on their record.

That makes me sad!
Hope the two buyers make up for the tubes, either by paying or returning them.

Sorry to hear about that. Stuff like that pisses me off. I know I haven't been here that long but in the six or so months that I have been I have had a chance to deal with some great people. I have been fortunate in that I haven't had any deals go bad here yet and every one of them has actually been very smooth. Wish I could say the same about ebay.

Anyway, hopefully they'll see this thread and get their acts together and do the right thing. It's terrible to see people take advantage of a great opportunity like the one you gave them.

Thats sad to hear but it goes to show that it is still the internet where there is practically no regulation, even if it is Head-Fi. Anyone can join up to exploit out interests. My experience so far however has been the opposite so it is an incorrect generalisation to assume time are changing for the worse. Undoubtedly there will be aresholes but generally I've found people here to be superb, including the guy 2 posts above me

I think it's too bad things like this happen. I hope they will get you either the tubes back or pay you the money for them.

I think this is one of those things that makes people less and less generous.

Sorry to hear about your plight brailledriver. I do hope these experiences don't sour your overall generosity. It's so easy to lose faith completely when faced with a few POS (no, not points of sale).

Leave that feedback and hopefully they never frequent this place again. We don't need 'em.

About 3 years ago I lent a mint condition Nikon FE2 SLR camera, flash, and 3 Nikon lenses to a fellow, long-time member to help a family member of their's learn the basics of photography without having to invest in non-diigital equipment. I even included a case and shipped the stuff out at my expense.... with full understanding that it was a long term loan. A year later when I asked for it back, I was told that it would take a while because of some personal problems but that it would be shipped out soon and a tracking number would be provided. Didn't receive a tracking number and when the equipment didn't show after a couple of months I asked again and was told it had been shipped out but just recently returned by customs for some reason and would be shipped again and that again a tracking number would be provided. Again, I never received a tracking number or any follow-up contact, and after several weeks more when I asked about it, I was told "What??? I shipped that a while ago ... I'll look into it." That was the last I heard about it. Despite being told it was shipped twice and that both times a tracking number would follow, then told a third time it would be looked into, throughout the entire time I never once received a follow-up with a tracking number or asking if I'd received the shipment. Sort of makes one think it was never shipped in the first place, doesn't it? And this was someone well respected (at least by some) and whom I thought I could trust.

Just goes to show that not only new members are capable of screwing you over.

However, this is not the norm. Every other transaction I've had here has been excellent. And one only has to look at the generous member and charity product give-aways that have occurred here recently to realize there are still a lot of good people at Head-fi. I don't think it's fair to judge the entire membership based on a couple of bad experiences.

That's a real shame... that is one of the things that impressed me so much about this place... I can't say how many times members have sent me gear to listen to and how much I appreciated it. One member even came all the way out to my house from SF to let me hear some RS-1 and PS-1... damn him for that since it cost me $1400.

I've also noticed a lot of very new members giving a lot of recommendations... folks with a month or two since joining... kinda strange unless they were all long time lurkers.

braillediver & mbriant, that's really sad to hear about your losses. Both of you intended good but instead got nothing but a punch in the face. I haven't had the misfortune of dealing with a scammer, but I definitely understand your frustration and empathise with you.
