Wow, how do you Europeans manage to still buy stuff?  Yikes.

That's still cheap.  I got mine for €500, almost $700, and that's with a 5% discount....

I think something's wrong with your headphones. That doesn't sound right at all.

Yes, emphasized highs, much more so than on HD558's.  HD558's have slightly more forward mids, but highs are on HD650's are much more emphasized, much crisper and cleaner.

They have around 300 hours on them, so its not because they're new or not burned in, but I definitely find them fatiguing.  The thing is,  mids are slightly recessed IMHO, and in order to get some punch and energy from the bass, I need to crank them up much louder than HD558's.  I can listen to 558's on any volume and they will sound nice, while HD650's will sound nice only when they're cranked up pretty loud, and then highs gets almost piercing and sibilant.

Comparing my 558's to my 650's... I really prefer the 650's. Its hard to put into words, the 650's simply have so much more detail and are so much more full. It seems like I hear more sound.. low low bass frequencies that the 558's are simply not producing for instance.  The 558's still sound great to me and on their own they sound fantastic, but after listening to a song with my 650's on and switching back, it sounds like I'm missing so much.

Just made this cable for my HD650, 22 Gauge Silver plated copper from Navships.  Opened up the highs and bass a bit, not a drastic change but worth it.

Picture of the braiding (Hated to cover up all that work!)

And the cable:

Should I get new HD600s for $316 or refurbished HD650s for $309?  Amazon had this fulfillment by amazon thingy and the company that is selling it is Pinnacle Deals.

That's an amazing price for HD650s. As for which one you get, just pick the one you prefer sonically.

I think you might have been ripped off, honestly. For that amount of money you could have gotten an HE-500.

Not really. That's the official price in my country.  All headphones are much more expensive than in US for example.   D2000 are almost 400 euros,  D5000's 700 euros....HD800's
1200 euros, etc.....  and If I order a pair from US, or ebay / amazon/ whatever,  once they get trough all the taxes and stuff (don't know how its called in english, but its basically +10%, +12% again, and then additional +23% on that price), it increases their price to the same amount I'd pay in my country, so there's really no choice, and no point in ordering from other countries.  Sux.

What country is that, if I may ask?

I just caught up on the last 10 pages or so, and I think it's safe to say now that the NFB-12 is not a good match for the HD650s.  A number of people have reported mediocre results now, which is surprising since it's supposed to be identical in performance to the FUN, which was fantastic as far as price/performance.

Here in Colombia, one must pay at least 25% more for the imported products. I paid for the HD650 around USD$650 and another USD$550 for my Audio-GD FUN.

I bought a used pair in excellent condition for $200 shipped, so I'm delighted.  They can be a bit bright depending on
the amplifier...the Schiit Asgard didn't work for me at all.  OTOH, an ASL OTL Mk. I in the OTL mode is just lovely.
I also bought an old school Headroom Supreme and the bass with that will roll down your socks!
Hibuck....

Oddly enough, I'm finding the NFB12 to produce great results with my HD800 (admittedly though I have not compared it with other good amps so I have no frame of reference), despite the NFB12 being absolutely a bad match for the HD650. The reason for this IMO is not that the NFB12 is low quality, but because it rolls off the treble a bit by about 3db around 10khz-20khz. This is BAD for the HD650 because it only makes it darker and blurrier, and this is GOOD for the HD800 because the HD800 is a bit on the bright side.
