Think its just the headbands that are made in Ireland, could be wrong....

Of all the parts to make in Ireland rather than something like China, I don't think a headband would make sense. Also I don't know if it would be legal to print "Made in Ireland" unless the whole thing is.

I don't own the SRH940 and only listened to it a few times, but I'm quite surprised that you find it more detailed than the HD650. It didn't own the latter at the time, but I compared it briefly against the DT 1350 - and I found the latter more detailed (gear used : iPhone 4 + LOD + TTVJ Slim). And as I find my HD650 as detailed or maybe a little more than the DT 1350 up top out of the same setup, that seems strange to me.
But that may be related to the HD650 rendition of details and electronic music. I find the HD650 to have a very subtle rendition of details : they're not thrown in your face à la DT 1350 (with the latter, every bip and pop of a recording can't be missed, while they're more integrated within the rest of the music on the HD650 - but still there if not more detailed). For the genre, I actually like the DT 1350 laser-cut rendition of details - it gives drive and tension to the music. But every time I listen to classical music, I find the HD650 treble rendition better - timber is better, it's much better integrated within the rest of the music, and it remains as detailed if not actually more.
Maybe the amp isn't good enough also.

I can see how the significantly more treble of the SRH940s have over the HD650s that they can give the impression of more details...but in the end, I don't think they can keep up with the HD650 (or HD600s).

To be honest I'm inclined to want to believe that too. Maybe I should experiment with equalization more with a better equalizer to make sure I'm not missing something.

Are your ears supposed to be brushing lightly against the sliver looking thing? Does anyone know what that is? It doesn't seem to be a diaphram but I don't know what it's for.

Yeah you're right, the whole thing is made in Ireland, just looked it up.

Nice change from China though

I believe that is the acoustic silk.  As long as you have the foam in place you should be alright.  AC500, if the HD650 are not quite working for ya, you can always come over to the dark(or should I say slightly analytical?

)side and grab a pair of AKGs.  We'll even have it in your favorite color.

It would be interesting to try HD600s, K701s, and DT880s, but since there are no meets in my area as far as I know, that would require me paying about as much altogether as a HD800.

I would like to own both HD 600 and HD 650. ; ) Cables for both would be nice. HD 650 actually has more extention (isolating extension) than lcd2. However, it is naturally much more grainy. But both carry a exquisite bass.

I'm really disappointed with the HD650, just doesn't wow me after pairing it up with the DacPort *shrugs*. I'll be selling mine and moving onto another set of headphones.

Hmm, were you using them only from the DacPort?  The HD650 is a headphone that needs a fair bit of voltage, the built-in amp of the DacPort's(assuming that's the version you're using) probably isn't robust enough to properly drive it.  The HD650 when underdriven tends to sound a bit dull and subdued.  I would suggest trying the HD650 through a better amp(if possible) before deciding to move to another headphone.

Yes it definitely sounds somewhat dull, in this case the HD650 are a bad choice that I've made because I'm more or less finished with my budget with the HD650 + DacPort.

A good warning for those who are buying the HD650, be prepared to spend much more then you think with the HD650. Then again those who buy HD650 should know this, as I did but I didn't expect them to be this unsatisfying without proper equipment. At least not worth the amount I've spent so far.

I'll be switching to Audio technica.
