Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread

They both are engaging, just differently. The HD650 entices with it's vocals and musicality. It's a headphone to vibe out to. Very seductive and sultry. The HE-400 is a harder, more aggressive headphone. It's lower mids (think male vocals) are quite upfront like the HD650, but mids overall are a little pushed back in comparison to the HD650. The bass on the HE-400 is basically without peer all the way until you get the LCD2, in which they are comparable in. Very linear and full bass overall. The treble on the HE-400 has sheen to it that is lively and sometimes fatiguing. The HD650 is subdued in the treble, but I wouldn't call it veiled. Just polite and pleasant. Neither are boring cans.

The HE-400 has better imaging (by quite a stretch), and space between intruments. I have yet to hear a headphone which does that better. The HD650's soundstage is more linear and not as dimensional, but it's still a natural sounding soundstage. The HD650 is also a little slower in the attack vs the HE400.

Good stuff. I just got the he-400's and I am thinking about getting the hd650's to compliment the he-400's. Basically I would use the he-400 for more electronic/bass aggressive style music (hip hop, electronic, etc.) and I would use the hd650's for music i want to chill to like Female vocals, acoustic/solo artists, and video games, because they are known to be less fatiguing.

The hd650 is a fantastic hp. It has more sub bass punch than it's gets credit for and less veil than some say IMO. I'd say go for it!! You'll get beautiful mids and female vocals that the he400 will struggle with.

Just be sure to amp the hd650 properly and it will truly impress. That he400, although very efficient for an ortho, will benefit from a bit more juice as well.

gL!!

I have an audioengine d1 dac and amp, I hear from searching the net that it should be fine amping the hd650, it does a great job with my he-400's. Though at the rate I am going I will have a lyr and a new dac probably by tomorrow

So, the silver cable turned it into a HD600?

i always tot i prefer the hd600....and had for awhile.
But i savor the strongerbass, and alittle more lush to the overall sound without sacrificing a clear high.(with the silvercable)
So from that perpective i ended up with the 650...
i called it a hd600 on steroids..lol.
