Looking for a recommendation for customs/CIEMs

Cool, I'll take a look at Alclair.  Sound sig honestly doesn't matter much to me unless something is really far from neutral, or has really heavy bass. Neither has been a problem with IEMs for me.    These will be primarily driven by a phone or tablet, sometimes with a small amp, since I use...

Looking for a recommendation for customs/CIEMs

I am way out of the game on these and am a little shocked at how many customs manufacturers have popped up in the last ~5 years, so I am looking for some recommendations or good threads to point me in the right direction of the current consensus.   I have a couple requirements:   1) Must be...

    Beta-22 attenuator issue/question

That is a good point. I may just buy an RK27 for the short term and look at something like the LCDuino/δ1 as a summer project.  I don't mind going a bit high on price if it is part of a DIY project and I haven't done one since my Beta.  Would be fun to case something again.   ...aaaaaaand...

    Beta-22 attenuator issue/question

Haha, not a chance.  My ears aren't that good.  I built the Beta as a fun project.  I honestly can't hear a single iota of difference between it and my CK2III (which cost about as much as that goldpoint).

    Beta-22 attenuator issue/question

Maybe my first post wasn't clear enough.  I went through the first time setup from amb.org with my multimeter and checked all of the key voltages across all 3 channels.  They are identical and within operating range, so there is nothing wrong with the boards, which means its a connection issue...

    Beta-22 attenuator issue/question

Hi Everyone,   My main amp is a Beta 22 that I built.  It has worked perfectly for 4+ years now (and is actually the reason I dropped off of the boards here.  It does everything I want and more).  It is the 3 channel version (R+L+G). Anyway, I think the attenuator has has crapped out on me.  I...

Preamp question - Need a cheap preamp.

I have an ARC SP3 A 1 preamp from the mid 70s which is not working properly.  Since I don't have the money to get it fixed right now, I am looking to buy a cheap ($100-200) short term replacement.   I only need input selection (2-4 inputs) and volume control.  Any ideas?  I have been looking at...

New guy here. If you had $1,000 to spend on a startup setup, what would it be?

Where are you from?  If it were me, knowing what I do now, I would make it a priority to get to a meet and try to listen to a bunch of different phones and amps etc with your music.  If you get to a meet, anything you learn will be valuable and you can come back and post about which phones you...

New Albums from Belle & Sebastian and Sufjan Stevens

I think that Sufjan's new album is absolutely fantastic, and possibly the best album that he has released in his career.  The blend of electronic from his early days and "illinoise"-like instrumentals come together to make it seem like the sound he's been trying for all along.    In...

How do you cope with stress?

Meditation, music, good whiskey, friends.  Not necessarily in that order, and those may be mixed and matched.

Any Civ IV fans out there?

I have just gotten way back into this game this summer, after forgetting about it for more than a year,  and I am just wondering if anyone on head-fi is still playing.    Also, I apologize in advance if this restarts anyone's addiction.  ... just one more turn...until I take out monty...

$400 amp for Sennheiser HD 800?

I would have to say that you're probably better off waiting until you can afford an amp to match the level of the 800s.  I don't really see much of a point in slowly upgrading when you already went for one of the top headphones. Wait a couple amps and invest $1000 or a bit more in a good amp...

    Arcade Fire - The Suburbs

I have really enjoyed this album, and I would rank it about on the level of neon bible, which I really liked. Funeral is in a class of its own, and I'm not sure if they'll ever be able to equal that.   The one thing that really bothers me about this album is the lyrics.  They sound lazy to...

Thousands of dollars of headphone gear + college campus = ?

Current student here.  I have always kept my gear at school, and we have an active room as far as weekend get togethers etc.  It really isn't a problem if you move them out of the way when people are coming over.     No one is going to steal an amp or dac.  Headphones maybe, but those are...

Great intros that lead to disappointing songs

I was just thinking about this while listening to "because you're young" off Bowie's "Scary Monsters".   It has a really great intro that gets me excited every time I listen before I remember that the song isn't all that great.     What other songs can't live up to their promising intros?

Can the oil be evaporated into the rain and be spread to inland areas?

Quote: Environmental engineer chiming in.  Haven't read every post, but I just thought I'd comment on the OP.   Vaporized oil, the stuff that evaporates from the top of the slick, completely degrades in the atmosphere in 12 hours to 2 days.  The atmosphere is a very inhospitable place...

Electrostatic amp suggestions under $1500? GES the only choice?

Also, you can always commission a build of the exstata.  It would come in far below $1500 even with every bell and whistle you can think of.

    Best DIY DAC

The best DIY DAC is the Buffalo 32, in whatever revision it is currently being sold.  That said, it will be about $750-800 for a build.  If you are looking lower down on the spectrum, the Gamma 2 from AMB is great.  I don't know about the best, but very very good.

Hallelujah its the site is back up

Why is everyone's profile pic gone?  Other than that, I am enjoying it, though it will take some time.     Edit: I just noticed that the new system auto subscribes to a thread when you reply.  Is there any way to turn that off without unchecking the box every time I reply?

    hot tubes?

If you can't use an amp as a space heater, you haven't pushed it far enough into class A, that's what I always say.

    iPhone 4G Leaked

^ I have a problem believing that it would have the final touches like the FCC logo if it wasn't ready to go. Also, gizmodo's coverage of this and their recent article exposing the name of the guy who lost the phone just seems too strange. Not only is it completely unprofessional to ruin...

    iPhone 4G Leaked

^truth. So does the ipad. and so do the new macbooks. They have some curves, but Gizmodo's claim that the thing is so packed with electronics that there is no room for curves in the iphone makes sense.

    iPhone 4G Leaked

^^there is no way that it is not legit. I do have a hard time believing that someone just "lost" it and it ended up at gizmodo. I think this might be apple giving the internets a head start on the hype machine.
