    Ferrum WANDLA - Impressions Thread

Main extra thing to note is that this feature is being done with 64 bit precision rather than 24/32 bit as many normal digital EQs are (some even only do 16 bit). This is to ensure absolutely no change in sound quality other than the actual FR effect itself. Ie: it's the highest possible quality...

Generally if using Wandla with a tube amp, I'd set voltage output to 'red' mode and then vol control to about 90. But try tweaking the level to see what sounds best with your amp. With other DACs either use the inbuilt vol control or vol control in your player to apply about 6-10dB vol attenuation

It's not that the envy can't take more than that, it's just that it (and so far all other tube amps or hybrid amps with tube input stages) that I've tested exhibit distortion correlated with input level, regardless of what level is actually being output. This means that they will change in...

    Ferrum WANDLA - Impressions Thread

One thing to note is with envy (and many other tube amps) you'd definitely need to use vol control/voltage adjustment. 10V into a tube amp will cause them to distort significantly more. With the WA23 and Envy AE the sweet spot was about 1V

It's not crossfeed no (although there is . I've never really been a fan of crossfeed other than for hard panned tracks. The spatial enhancement in the GSE works differently.

Oh yeah, he1 is incredible. I just mean I'd love to see how much better it gets with a DAC like the GSE HE1 + GSE spatial enhancement would probably be insanely good

Using it with HE1 would make a lot of sense imo. Having tried the HE1 both standalone and with the Lina dac I feel the internal dac is something of a bottleneck. I'd love to hear he1 with the GSE someday.

I really like it with tube amps (it plus the envy anniversary edition was awesome) I just wouldn't necessarily use the tube mode itself if using a tube amp (maybe if using a very low distortion one like a WA33 or something but not with most SET amps)

I don't generally use it with atrium, atrium is already a fairly bassy headphone. Bass level preference is the area that varies most between listeners though so its gonna depend on the person

For anyone at Munich wanting to try it, there's a couple Wandla GoldenSound editions at the Ferrum booth and another in the Meze Booth in the headphone hall! (possibly more elsewhere too)

The conversion system will be finished and ready in June (gonna say late June to be safe)

Really glad you liked it! Personally I think the composer takes very nice advantage of the spatial enhancement

If anyone is at Munich High-End there are some Wandla GSEs about, one is in the Meze room :)

So I was pretty much the same regarding ESS stuff for a while. The reason I loved the Original Wandla so much was specifically because it did NOT exhibit those 'typical ESS' traits. As you can read on from impressions from various folks in the Wandla thread, the great thing about the Wandla is...

Best low budget pcie usb card?

Topping HS01/HS02 seem quite a lot more basic internally, what the noise performance on that one is IDK unfortunately

    dCS Bartok

I'm confused though, how is the 10Mhz clock implemented/used in this sort of setup if the DAC doesn't accept 10Mhz
  20. GoldenSound

    dCS Bartok

Can you even use a 10Mhz clock? The clock inputs on the dCS DACs are word clock inputs (usually 22.579Mhz and 24.576Mhz) are they not? Not 10Mhz

Best low budget pcie usb card?

Noise up to 500khz is <9uV. For reference, johnson noise with that bandwidth (the noise literally just from the atoms in the metal being at room temperature) is about 6uV so it's basically as close to the physical limit as you can get. As to reclocking, USB reclocking has no effect on jitter...

Best low budget pcie usb card?

Yes, and the Intona has actually been measured and tested to show insanely low noise whereas most other products have not. The PCIe cards are definitely going to be cleaner than a mobo USB out, but are still a device internal to a big PC and it's going to be really difficult to keep them as...

Best low budget pcie usb card?

Don't get a PCIe card unless you absolutely have to. Something such as the Intona 7055-C would be a much better choice

LAiV Harmony R2R DAC Impression and Reviews

I'm not sure what the max rate is, but DSD is converted to PCM internally anyway
  25. GoldenSound

LAiV Harmony R2R DAC Impression and Reviews

The Laiv was running OS since running NOS would cause treble rolloff vs the Wandla. DSD wouldn't be appropriate since the Laiv doesn't convert DSD natively (technically neither does ESS but it's a little more grey)
