  yeah the tips make a big difference.  with the spiral dot the sound sig is U shaped with the mids taking a slight back seat good highs great bass.  The comply foam with get you really strong bass and romantic mids thought the highs get cut of some.  Haven't tried the stock cuz they don't seal...

Ok I think I understand a bit more know.   I agree that the utopia is above the hd800 (in all respects actually).  I also believe that the utopia is pretty close to perfect (possibly best dynamic yet), however in the lower mids to subbass it comes apart for me.  The code-x keeps its composure...

What amp are you using? I'm surprised you find utopia a competent bass headphone. That was the biggest let down for me with that headphone. But like you said it was just an audition. Maybe I missed something.

@das Mookid While I agree with the physics. This possible deformation is true of any dynamic driver that is larger than the nozzle. Add to that balance armatures have even more problems. It wont be perfect but it could still be very good.

After rolling the stock, comply, and spiral dot tips. I ended up using the spiral dot. Stock rubber- bad fit (for me obviously), no bass, kind of bright (especially when worn over ear) Comply - best seal, meatiest bass, slight distortion that added nice character(beeswax guard probably)...

Mine have the same discoloration. Pretty sure it's body oils, the spots is benith where my finger is when I push them into my ear. I wasn't planning on flipping these so I don't mind, but yeah lot of money for such a blemish to happen so fast. Still enjoying the sound thought!
