What to expect coming from stock ipod ear buds to beyerdynamic Dt990 pro's

But is there not a difference between sample frequency and signal frequency?   I always thought that 96/192kHz audio refers to the sampling frequency, or how many times per second you are plotting a digital point to approximate the analog wave. Telling me this has nothing to do with the...

What to expect coming from stock ipod ear buds to beyerdynamic Dt990 pro's

Hear all those hertz?   It's not the audible range that is advertised on a DAC with 24/96 or 24/192, that's the sample rate that the DAC controls the audio stream. The more samples, the more data being processed = more music to be heard.   There is a night and day difference between my...

What to expect coming from stock ipod ear buds to beyerdynamic Dt990 pro's

I'd say, for your first headphone, that's a very fine choice. Much better than most options you can pick up in the store locally.

What to expect coming from stock ipod ear buds to beyerdynamic Dt990 pro's

That will probably be fine, but if your DAC supports 24-bit / 96khz-192khz, then you may want to check out some FLAC or ALAC files. They are generally 4x higher resolution (or more) than your standard 320k MP3.   But, only your ears will make that determination. Some 320k files still sound...

What to expect coming from stock ipod ear buds to beyerdynamic Dt990 pro's

That's a major upgrade. You'll have much greater volume, much more detail (from top to bottom), more dynamics, you'll feel the music more, and the Beyers will be MUCH more comfortable than the "buds". Sounds to me like you'll be very happy with your purchase.   Once you hear your setup, you'll...

Which pair is better for first Headphones?

I'm going to agree with the HD598. It's usually $250 but sometimes drops to the $180 for holidays and other promotions. Even at $250 it's worth every penny.   I'll also say that aside from the sound quality being amazing, the HD598/HD600/HD650 are amongst the most comfortable headphones...

Help! :) Sennheiser Momentum or the PSB M4U1 for a portable closed-back setup.

I took your advice and went on a hunt to find both sets of headphones, while I couldn't hear them side by side I did get a chance to wear both of them. It was an easy decision to go with the PSB's, I couldn't wear the momentums for more than one minute without getting uncomfortable. How they...

Help! :) Sennheiser Momentum or the PSB M4U1 for a portable closed-back setup.

Thanks for the reply. The only ones I can find locally are the Momentums, I'm not really sure where I can listen the M4U1's, unfortunately. Depth isn't really so much of an issue as my SRH-840's pretty much sit flat on the ear, though I do like the depth of the HD600's.   I have a feeling if...

Help! :) Sennheiser Momentum or the PSB M4U1 for a portable closed-back setup.

Hello fellow Head-fi'ers!      I was hoping to reach out to someone who has experience with both the Sennheiser Momentum (Over-the-Ear) and the PSB M4U1 because I don't have the luxury of hearing these headphones side-by-side. I recently gave my sister my Shure SRH-840's (because I'm a nice...

    The Fiio X3 Thread.

I'm not a fan of Replay-Gain, either. Nor do I think it would work using the Line-Out on the X3, which is what I do. The less "software" changes to my audio files the better in my opinion. That's why I have a volume knob if needed.   But thanks anyway.

    The Fiio X3 Thread.

I agree with this. Gapless Shuffle is annoying and the difference in volume between some files is too great and can sometimes be startling. Going from a calm classical song to a loud, hard-hitting dubstep song, would probably make me **** my pants without the gap. When not knowing what song...

    The Fiio X3 Thread.

Last post from me on this for now, but this definitely fixed my problem. 2 hours going now and I've landed on lots of songs I haven't heard in a while and I'm not seeing any repeating pattern.    I hope this is the same issue with yours! I can live without gapless playback all day, hearing...

    The Fiio X3 Thread.

The existing USB DAC driver did not work? It worked previously, correct?   I have the X3 USB DAC driver that came with my X3 when it had firmware v 2.05. I can sent it to you, but I'm not sure if that will solve your problem. If it's not on the site, then I'm not sure it's available.

    The Fiio X3 Thread.

Thanks for the feedback peter! I can say, within the last 40 minutes it feels like my playlist has really opened up after turning OFF gapless playback!   If you're on the newest firmware, I would adjust the setting to off (assuming it's on) and see if you see the same results. Hopefully not...

    The Fiio X3 Thread.

Interesting! I'm glad I'm at least not completely nuts nor alone! :)   Does gapless playback being turned on/off seem to alter the results? I've been listening for about 20 minutes now and have come across a few songs I haven't heard in a while since turning it OFF.

Reply to some bugs of X3’s new firmware and new function suggestions from our end-users!

Hello Marty, I agree with you on your 3rd point. That would be a nice feature to be added.   But as for 1 & 2 regarding the volume options, I guess it depends on how you use the X3. I use the Line-Out to my E12 which negates all volume options.   So, personally, seeing those options on...

In reply to myself.... I just turned off Gapless Playback and it seems like the issue might not be happening now.   Still, if anyone wouldn't mind running some tests with Gapless Playback on and off and see if there's a difference.   Thanks again!

    The Fiio X3 Thread.

Hello FiiO, James, fellow head-fiers!   First off, let me just say that I love the new firmware update on the X3! I think it's got a much better GUI design/layout, playback is faster and there is less pause between screens (which I sometimes saw in 2.1). Overall I am much happier with the...

    The Fiio X3 Thread.

What do you mean "You" were left hanging? You're not in this alone and it's not like anyone from FiiO was directly communicating to you promising a release date. Get a grip.   Keep waiting patiently (which you aren't, even if you say you are) and just assume there's good reason it's being...

^^ This.   The X3/E12 powers my HE-400's and HD600's with massive authority and detail. But just to finish up your research, there is a very noticeable difference when using the E12. The X3 alone can't handle these cans at the volume that I prefer.   P.S. Use adhesive velcro instead of...

    Sennheiser HD 600 Impressions Thread

And yes, I feel bad about my previous rant now. LoL :)   I should have known they would do everything they could to make it right.   Sennheiser, if you're reading this, you're the best!!

    Sennheiser HD 600 Impressions Thread

Just wanted to chime in and say that I received the (2) new drivers from Sennheiser and my HD600's are now back to the beautiful pristine condition that they originally arrived in. Plus the extras they sent me, and also having a spare driver is very nice.   Sennheiser really went above and...

Another call to Sennheiser and after sending an e-mail with the pictures, they're going to send me (2) brand new drivers.   Thanks for your suggestion Brooko!   I'm confident that they won't be sending me two broken drivers this time :)

    Sennheiser HD 600 Impressions Thread

Thanks for the suggestion Jerg, but the point is it should have been fixed correctly the first time. It's like they focused more on the padding than the driver. I'm not going to attempt your suggestion unless things fall through with Sennheiser, but thanks for the backup suggestion just in case...
