I found my perfect headphone! (aka, "What is wrong with you people?")
I think I've finally found my perfect headphone (the foam-modded HD558), and have vanquished upgradeitis for at least a couple years, until I get significantly more disposable income or the next generation of headphones comes out. Yay me... so before I leave, I'd like to address what's...- spaceconvoy

Adding bass boost to Mini3
I have a Mini3 already built (high performance version), and I'd like to add a bass boost but I'm hopeless with any electrical engineering. This is as far as I've figured out, which is basically just the PPA bass boost grafted onto the Mini3: I'm planning to snip the leg of the...- spaceconvoy

Closed headphone fatigue blues
First off, I really like almost everything about my new FA-003 now that it's approaching 100 hours of burn in - the tonal balance, bass, detail, texture and even the soundstage once it's been amped... But this is the first closed headphone I've listened to in over 3 years, and it's giving me...- spaceconvoy

Cheap portable line-out
I'm looking for a new portable source to use as a line-out, plugged into my Mini3. The Fuze with custom line-out dock sounds interesting, but some have said the Clip+ set on 0 volume works just as well for less money/hassle, even if it's not a true line-out. Can anyone compare these? ...- spaceconvoy

Anybody in Honolulu?
I just moved back, and will soon take (re)possession of my K601s, new FA-003s, and my trusty mini3... not much, but it could be the start of an interesting meet. Anyone else in town?- spaceconvoy

Best caps for diymod - size isn't an issue, but cost is
I'm building a diymod/mini3 franken-source inside a custom enclosure, so size is not an issue... within reason. As long as the caps don't weigh a pound each or are the size of a can of baked beans, they'll work for me. What I am concerned with is the price. I only want to pay around $5 for each...- spaceconvoy

Mini3 powered by AA batteries?
I'm planning on building a Mini3 + diymodded iPod wired together inside a homemade case, and powered by a bank of AA batteries for a longer runtime. My question is, if I use a 47ohm resistor at R8 to increase the charge current from 16ma to 27ma (as specified in the Mini3 parts list), can I use...- spaceconvoy

9v battery bank powering both iPod and amp?
Instead of going into a long explanation of what I'm planning to do, here's a crappy gif of my idea: But for clarity's sake, some explanation is needed... basically, I'd like to wire a diymodded iPod straight from it's DAC to the input of a Mini3, both of which would be powered by a 9v...- spaceconvoy

Coming from the PX100, looking for an IEM
First off, I love my PX100. After a year on headfi and two dozen headphones, I finally found what I was looking for and promptly dropped out of the loop. Now I need some isolation and want to get an IEM, but my head-fu is rusty. X3? M5? Q-Jay? Last time I was here everyone was drooling over the...- spaceconvoy

...Or has posting sky-rocketted recently? This isn't a completely random observation, since I have a scientific method of measurement Basically, I'm gauging how long it takes to fill up the first page of the headphone forum with newly-posted-in threads. Just realized I'm not an audiophile
I found my perfect headphones, the ATH-D1000. It's everything I wanted in a headphone - it's closed but has a very natural, balanced frequency response, and even a somewhat forward midrange (unlike every other closed headphone I've heard). It has a ton of detail but keeps everything well blended...- spaceconvoy

Best flash player with fm/voice/line recording??
I love my Shuffle, but I want something with FM radio, a built in mic and a line-in for recording. Plus, I want it to run on either AA or AAA batteries, which limits my choices down to four contenders: iAudio G3 iRiver T30 Creative Zen Nano Plus Samsung YP-MT6 Any opinions on these...- spaceconvoy

Mp3 crossfeed software?
Does anyone know if there's an easy way to get the crossfeed effect on my mp3s? I know I could probably add crossfeed on the original wavs with Goldwave and then convert to mp3, but is there any program that will add crossfeed directly to mp3s (and save me a LOT of hassle)?- spaceconvoy

Difference between DA chips for Zhaolu?
Is the CS4398 really $70 better than the AD1852? I've read only a few opinions on this, ranging from 'the upgrade is totally worth it' to 'save your money'. Has anyone actually head both chips? Also, does the upgrade only improve clarity/detail, or does it have any additional effect on the sound...- spaceconvoy

Most efficient web browser?
Firefox (at least the old version) takes up a ton of processing speed and tends to crash a lot on my machine. With the new version of IE finally supporting tabbed browsing, now I'm thinking of changing back and it makes me wonder if there's anything better out there - Opera maybe? So without...- spaceconvoy

Opinions on Zhaolu's discrete amp?
Like the title says - what do people think of Zhaolu's headamp? Is it basically dead weight, or does it hold its own against similarly priced amps? I was thinking of pairing it with either a k601 or k701, if anyone has specific opinons on this combo...- spaceconvoy

Hard drive + optical = ???
Why is this so hard? All I want is to be able to play .wav and .mp3 files from a hard drive (not attached to a computer) through an optical out. Is there any way to accomplish this feat? Something like an olive opus minus the CD player and not costing $2000. Like a 250GB desktop sized mp3 player.- spaceconvoy

Reporting from Tokyo
Just got back from my summer in Japan - last week I spent about 2.5 hours in DynamicAudio 5555 in Akihabara. It was.. amazing! They have about every headphone (currently in production) you could ask for, just sitting out there in the open. You could plug any of them into any of the expensive...- spaceconvoy

Best headphone for quiet listening?
Listening to my ksc75, I always feel like I have to turn the volume up for them to sound their best - somehow they seem muddier and less clear at lower volumes. So, for the sake of my hearing, what's the best headphone for low-volume listening?- spaceconvoy

iPod Shuffle Database Builder (drag and drop software)
Just got my new Shuffle this morning and immediately ran into a problem - how to fill it? I've used iTunes before but I refuse to use it now that it's basically spyware (plus it's huge and bloated and has caused my computer to crash a few times). So I started looking for some suggestions here in...- spaceconvoy

Audio Philosophy
I've tried my fair share of headphones, from almost every major brand (only one missing in Senn) and I'm begining to realise that I'm not cut out for head-fi. Buying/trying AT Old Woodies in Japan?
Just finalized my travel plans to Japan this summer so I've started thinking about what headphones I'm going to buy (naturally ). Should I change my avatar?
In commemoration of my 500th post, I was thinking I should get around to changing my avatar, but I don't know...
