Self-repair of Shure e4?
Hi folks, I was wondering if anyone here has repaired a pair of Shures before? My e4 has gone defective and I'm well beyond the warrant period. I can't afford to upgrade or even buy an equivalent IEM, so my choices are a dodgy e4 or iBuds The problem I have is the right channel cuts out...- DJShadow

Dead driver or dodgy cable?
Hi guys, My beloved SA5000 (has again) run into some trouble. The sound has completely cut out of the left channel but this isn't an intermittent issue like previously where I could get some sound by wiggling the cable around in the left housing. I heard the sound gradually fade out rather...- DJShadow

Finally got myself an iPod, want to know some bits and bobs
My Sony NW-HD3 has served me well these past four years, but I decided to put it into early retirement when I bought my first iPod today (becoming part of the herd in the process ) the 80GB Classic model. I've never used iTunes before and this painful dial-up connection is still downloading the...- DJShadow

TV tuners/cards
Anyone use one? I'm looking at getting one for my notebook so I won't need to haul the telly to uni. I have no idea what features to look out for though. Heres a selecion of what I'm on about. Its must be able to record programmes as well (I think all tuners are capable of this as long as the...- DJShadow

HD 595 driver just died
It seems the 595 is less durabe than I've been lead to imagine. Straight off the bat, ever since I've acquired the SA5000, I've been using the HD 595 as a beater headphone in the most literal sense. Occasionally when I get infuriated (thus losing all my intergrity) the poor headphones may find...- DJShadow

Gilmore Lite Elpac power supply
Is the standard power supply (wall-wart I think you guys call it) a multi-voltage job ala Hornet's charger? Would it be perfectly fine to plug into a UK wall socket (via an adaptor probably) and not blow a fuse or the GL up?- DJShadow

For those of you who aren't aware of this site, its a completely free to use collection of user contributed ratings and reviews on all kinds of music most of which I haven't even heard of. The best and most distinguishing feature is that there is absolutely no (or at least very marginal) bias on... -
Cheap transport + DAC or higher priced CDP?
I was dead set on getting a NAD/Cambridge Audio/Denon etc CDP for around £225, but I've been reading that some folk think that a cheap transport and DAC will be better (or same performance for less) than a standalone CDP of the same price. Thoughts on this? I wouldn't know what transport or DAC...- DJShadow

What the hell is wrong with my DVD drive?
So I've had this notebook (HP nc8430) for about 8 months but I think the DVD drive has got messed up or something. My problem is whenever I insert a DVD video or music CD the computer seems to 'hang' when I open a media program (Windows Media Player, SonicStage, WinDVD etc)-switching to the...- DJShadow

Looking for UK/EU based DIY'er to recable sa5000
My journey to solve the intermittance in these phones has only exacerbated the matter-I get no sound whatsoever out of them now. There is a possiblity that I may have damaged the voice coil during my extremely novice attempts at resoldering. My situation now is that I feel I lack the necessary...- DJShadow

Best CDP for under £200
So I'm finally going to progress from using a pcdp as a home source to something (I hope) that is more hi-fi. My requirements are that it must have a headphone jack because I doubt I'd be spending anymore on additions like amps, DACs, interconnects etc. It doesn't have to be SACD or...- DJShadow

Need help choosing an amp
I've just purchased a pair of sa5000s and my d-ne920 pcdp (I'm not a Sony fanboy in case you're wondering) simply doesn't have enough juice to drive them effectively. I can already hear all the details coming out but they're being restrained by a lack of power. Well I'll leave it up to you guys...- DJShadow

So how do you guys do transactions on the for sale/trade forums?
I'm interested in acquiring a pair of sa-5000 (most likely trading my hd 595 + some money for them) but I was thinking how do you guys pay? Straight bank transfer seems too dodgy for me, so is PayPal the most common method around here? I'm talking in the context of UK transactions only seeing as...- DJShadow

SonicStage problems (yes there are people still using it)
SonicStage has never really given me any problems up until now. Its now incapable of fully ripping CDs-It'll get to part way through and then greet me with the message 'An error has occurred while trying to preparing to import the disc. Please try again', followed by the number '00000415', after...- DJShadow

£49,050...for a book?
On my usual journey of trawling through amazon I came across this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Chinese-Jews...e=UTF8&s=books Err so I'm completely baffled. Why does this book cost so much? I have the feeling I'm going to be smacked on the forehead because of something I've overlooked, but I...- DJShadow

Any Macbook Pro owners?
I've decided that its time for a new computer and after 4 years of (mediocre) service from my brilliant 1.6Ghz athlon XP1900+, a whopping 240 RAM, 40 gigs and awesome S3 integrated graphics card, i'm planning on getting a Macbook Pro. ipod 4th gen/Sony HD3 hard-drive transplant?
I've had a HD3 that has been in purgatory for the past 6 months waiting for a new lease of life in the form of a new hard drive. Having seen the prices of such hard drives on the net (~£75), I've been searching eBay for cheap 4th generation 20 GB ipods and it seems i have found an ideal...- DJShadow

Just been paid my education bonus of £100 and about to spent on a pair of Sennheiser HD 595's. Am I making the right decision? My experience of what constitutes 'good sound quallity' is so far Shure e3c's and how big is the difference between them and the HD 595's? So people, I need some...- DJShadow
