Focal Elear - Impressions Thread
I have a distortion problem with my right cup on high volumes. I thought this just was an overload thing, but now I start wondering when reading the above posts. I have the same problem with Mojo as with Jotuheim driving the Elears.- Frode Roed

I think the misconception here is that USB delivers packets of data. To say that zeroes and ones are delivered over a cable (not talking about Toslink lightpulses) and not analog voltage representing those bits puts a smile on my face.- Frode Roed

Schiit Jotunheim Review / Preview - Head-Fi TV
When reading some of these posts I understand that basic understanding of electronics is not something they teach in computer science lessons. What goes down a cable is not a bunch of Ones and Zeroes but a varying voltage (e.g. 5V TTL square pulse) that is NOT insensitive to variations in cable...- Frode Roed

I hope that Jotunheim customers have studied the geometry particulars for the Elears prior to ordering any balanced cables that doesn't say 'Elear compatible'.- Frode Roed

Just to say that sometimes my Elear breaks up when driven by the Mojo on moderate to loud levels. The source volume is set at 100%.- Frode Roed

From RMAF I read that Kimber makes an Axios version for the Elear. Probably very expensive when terminated with a 4pin XLR. I have not seen it in shops yet (preorder).- Frode Roed

The reason for the DAC comment of mine was that Schiit apparently have reported a component shortage for their DAC module, delaying shipments. Which balanced cable did you land on?- Frode Roed

Thanks :) I reckon it is the Jotunheim without the DAC module you have. Are you running the Elear's balanced from Jotunheim? Do you feel that the sound is full (I have heard that Jotunheim has the power, but might sound a little bright on the Elear's)? I am waiting for Jotunheim to drive my...- Frode Roed

Great, thanks to both of you. It is the balanced version with 4-pin XLR we are talking about, right? And the lock-fitting on the can side is flawless, I assume? Post note: The BD cable is actually a Thomann mobile cable as it seems (it also carries the same article number)...- Frode Roed

Thanks for your elaborate answer, Kenneth. I can appreciate that Focal won't give any specific recommendations on cable supplier, however given the fact that they do not produce one themselves, the least they are obliged to do is making a comparison table of suitable ones, IMO. After reading a massive amount of posts it still remain unclear to me which aftermarket balanced cable with 4-pin male XLR and 2x 3.5mm TS male jack that fits the Elear 'PlugNPlay', meaning no DIY work or adapter involved and no fitting issues on the house-connector side, whatsoever. I can appreciate your efforts on this one. For me a DIY solution is out of the question, even though I am able to overcome the challenges of making one. I don't want to put winter tyres on my Ferrari, however I realize that a customized aftermarket one will be costly.- Frode Roed

Thanks, but I guess there is more to it than this. The referred 2,5 to 3,5mm adapter also need to fit the Elear 'pocket' in the can housing, so this adds complexity and uncertainty to the issue: http://www.innerfidelity.com/content/dimensions-elear-diy-cable-builders#W5oZJCD2WypPAw31.97- Frode Roed
