Astell&Kern AK T8iE MkⅡ(Impressions and discussions thread)
I think the main reason why people are deterred from them mainly stems from QC and warranty issues. IMO they have everything it takes to be popular - good sound, good fit, well-known brands and gorgeous looks, all at a quite reasonable price compared to top flight BA's cost these day.- 3nenbgumi

Astell&Kern beyerdynamic AK T8iE Review (First Impressions from IFA 2015)
Just got an used pair of the AK T8ie MK2 yesterday (risky move, I know, but I managed a pretty sweet deal on it). Immediate impressions compared to the Andromeda are as follow (both are plugged into my ZX2): - The AK proved to be significantly less sensitive than the Andromeda, requiring...- 3nenbgumi

Oriolus Hybrid IEM
Got my Andros yesterday and my impression pretty much just mirrored yours. Both are top-tier and at the end it really boils down to preferences. At the price the Oriolus is going for, I think it's an absolute steal- 3nenbgumi

Campfire Audio - Introducing 2 new models Hello Andromeda and Nova
Heard that my local dealer had the Andromeda in stock, so I rushed in and brought a pair home. Here are some very preliminary impressions from me: - Really good build quality and the color scheme turned out to be a lot better in real life than I expected, slightly darkish green. Quite classy...- 3nenbgumi

Oriolus Hybrid IEM
Ditto. Coupled with my newly acquired AK120ii on SE, I get all the airiness and soundstage I need in an IEM. The PW Audio No 5 has really nice ergonomics though, soft and supple. If I can get the sound of the Chinese version one in the form factor of the PW, I'd be willing to pay a pretty penny...- 3nenbgumi

Oriolus Hybrid IEM
Really great review, alffla. I especially do agree with you on how a little more body to the vocals can be desired at times (with the Chinese version cable). My impression is that with the PW No.5 cable, the mids become more forward, you gain a bit more depth at the expense of width and a bit of...- 3nenbgumi

^ Glad you liked them. If you don't mind me asking - how do you find the Oriolus fares against the A91 in terms of air and spaciousness? I've recently realised that the reason why I liked the Oriolus so much was because of how airy and spacious they are, so if the A91 can match or even exceed...- 3nenbgumi

Oriolus Hybrid IEM
Everyone is entitled to his/her opinion. KimD seems to prefer some obscure aliexpress IEMs over everything else, so I'm not surprised that he'd find the Martian superior to the Oriolus Maybe somewhere along the line I'd do the same when I get to audition the Martian, but for now the Oriolus...- 3nenbgumi

Brand Spanking New A&K AK120II and AK100II
Same here. I just bought an used one and have been astounded at the amount of detail this thing output. Depending on the pairing, it can get a bit dry and clinical or just pure magic. I've never heard my JH13 sound this good. UI is an absolute step up from the original AK100. Faster, more...- 3nenbgumi

I don't know about the W-01, but the W-02 cable that comes with the Chinese version (I assume both should have the same pin diameter) fits the Oriolus pretty snugly. The W-02 however fits my custom JH13 loosely as well, so if I have to make an educated guess I'd say .76- 3nenbgumi

Yeah I have to admit that I got a bit more curious about it from your feedback. Saw a nice deal on an used one and thought I'd just give it a shot since aesthetically and ergonomically it was head and shoulder above the stock one. Glad I went with it. Thank you! :D- 3nenbgumi

Oriolus Hybrid IEM
I've recently acquired a PW Audio No.5 cable (akin to the one that comes with the Japanese version of the Oriolus). IMHO and it could be my ears playing tricks on me, there is a distinct different between the PW Audio No.5 and the stock cable that comes with the Chinese version. The No.5 rounds...- 3nenbgumi

Sorry but could you elaborate a bit more on how the Oriolus sounds with the Mojo? I am pretty intrigued by the Mojo and planning on picking up an used one soon, but reviews seem to indicate that there is marginal to zero improvement on using the Mojo with sensitive IEMs. Wondering if that would...- 3nenbgumi

Based on sonic qualities alone, personally I'd rate the Oriolus higher - they have a more open feel, the treble is more agreeable to my ears and dat bass. All factors combined - tough. Do you plan on keeping just one, or both? In case you do just one, how much do you think you could recuperate...- 3nenbgumi

Really though, I don't think I'm the most qualified person to speak about the matter as I don't have extensive experience with different versions of the Oriolus (mine is the Chinese one, as stated above while the one you're going to buy is the Japanese one I presume). Personally, I think the...- 3nenbgumi

Well it seems mine is the "inferior" Chinese version, but to be honest I don't really care since the thing sounds good enough for me already. No problemo. IMO, the Oriolus v2 is definitely superior to the TG! when it comes to technical prowess (as is my jh13). Truth be told, I sold my TG! and recouped a fair amount on it, so I was looking for some cheaper replacement to use in my office. I was fairly interested from all the rave...- 3nenbgumi

Precisely. Or perhaps I should have phrased it "female vocals". My bad Please do note that any comparison between my Oriolus and TG334! was made based on my memory since I have sold my TG! a while ago (we all know that audio memory is probably not the most reliable thing in the world)...- 3nenbgumi

Did you mean the TG!334? Better presence at the high frequencies, more spacious, harder but tighter and deeper bass but the vocals on the Oriolus cannot match the sheer emotion on the 334's, all IMHO. More versatile for sure, but if your music library is mainly made up of vocals, the 334s are...- 3nenbgumi
