Reference 8 cable is smexy.

Any thoughts on the comparison to the litz stock cable? In terms of both technicalities and tonality? :)

I see, sure! So basically the ref 8 is even warmer and richer than the litz?

I posted a short impression here: http://www.head-fi.org/t/805107/campfire-audio-introducing-2-new-models-hello-andromeda-and-nova/3120#post_12953151

* as a disclaimer: yes, I removed memory wire, and no, it wasn't easy -
if you decide to diy that with any ALO cables, you will void the warranty.

hi,

besides cost/availability, are there any musical or sonic attributes that might cause listeners to prefer Jupiter over Andro and perhaps Dorado?

I am currently using the orion, but really liked the jupiter during a brief audition. Unfortunately, Andromeda and Dorado were not available to audition at the time.

thanks in advance

The Jupiterhas a darker sound signature than the Andromeda or Orion. If you thought the Jupiter was too dark, the Andromeda would be better for you. If you thought the Jupiter was spot on, go get it!

Heard that my local dealer had the Andromeda in stock, so I rushed in and brought a pair home. Here are some very preliminary impressions from me:
- Really good build quality and the color scheme turned out to be a lot better in real life than I expected, slightly darkish green. Quite classy.
- Good fit, they do not stick out of the ears that much.
- I do not know about how the stock Litz cable is supposed to improve on sound, but one thing for sure, awesome ergonomics and really solidly braided.

Moving on to sound:
- Energetic presentation, the emphasis on treble is really apparent here. In fact the Andromeda sounds a lot more energetic and clear than anything I've had in my stable (Oriolus, Sony EX1000, JH13).
- Despite the emphasis on the treble, they do not seem to have a habit of ripping poorly mastered tracks apart like the JH13 or the Sony. I put on some of mine, expecting at least some form of punishment and these just did fine and dandy.
- Good wide soundstage, but not any better than my soundstage champs the Oriolus and EX1000 (which is impressive btw, as one has vents on the shells and one with a peculiar ear-hanger design).
- Bass hit with authority while not being too lean.
- Mids are great with both male and female vocals.
- Impressive clarity, again.

I'll be reporting more with further listening.

Andromedas are so hard to get impressions with because they are so sensitive to output impedance. For example with my iPhone 7 lightning adapter (~0.4 OI) I really don't like the Andromedas. Boomy bass and veiled highs. My iPhone 6S has a ~4.5 OI and that makes all the difference, very balanced and clear. I'm making a 4 ohm series adapter for my iPhone 7. It's ridiculous how much the sound signature changes with that small change in OI.

But stock is already very good, except for the ear guides which divide people.

Ken's new Reference 8 cable is awesome. I have one I use on both my Vega's and K10's. Cheers
