CanJam NYC 2018 Impressions (February 17-18, 2018)
First time at CanJam. A friend and I hit up the event on Saturday and came back with the following impressions: The Good: Dan Wright had the best rig hands down with the HiFiMan HE1000 fed into his amp, the HA300 and a tube modded Oppo 205 with an outboard PSU serving as the DAC. Very clean...- gloco

Any old fart head-fi'ers still around?
Ha! It's good to see some of the OG crew lurking around here. It's amazing to see how far portable audio has come compared to when many of us first joined head-fi in 2001-2002. I still have my Grado SR60's and Sony 7506's that I purchased back in 2001 and they still work just fine, although I...- gloco

Any old fart head-fi'ers still around?
Back when kelly, grinch, Audio&Me were causing all kinds of trouble on head-fi. I went along for the ride because we were unhappy with the changes being adopted around here at the time. I'm guessing 2003? I've calmed down a lot since then ;-)- gloco

Official New York Spring Meet Sat May 2nd 2015
Put me down, for once, I can definitely make it. Looking forward to trying out some hi-rez players (including the pono). I'll bring my rockboxed iPod Classic 160gb (7th gen) along with my Sony 7506's and Grado SR60's. That's all I got left nowadays :-|- gloco

Ipod classic - rockbox - its happening.
Long time head-fier here. After reading up on this thread and googling around a bit I finally bit the bullet and installed rockbox on my iPod Classic. Best decision I ever made! I was ready to sell my Classic 7G - 160gb off. I hate iTunes with a passion, made my album list a complete...- gloco

Busted poweer on/off button on my 6th gen Nano - now what?
Hey guys, I visited a genius bar and got nothing but "we can replace it for $75" since it's about two weeks outside of the warranty (go figure). I declined since they only give a 90 day warranty on replacement units. So, now what? Can this damn thing be fixed? I have a feeling...- gloco

SACD/DVD-Audio/BR-Audio albums
Quote: Personally, I think both formats are dying. SACD will never catch on thanks to Sony and it's stranglehold on the technology behind SACD. Plus, it doesn't help that SACD media is largely composed of Jazz, Classic and Classic Rock offerings only. Based on info in the Tom... -
SACD/DVD-Audio/BR-Audio albums
Cool, thanks for the rec. I have that in my amazon wishlist. And a few other EJ sacd's. I'm trying to grab anything of interest while it's still affordable. Seems like any sacd/dvd-a's that go OOP suddenly spike in price in the Market Place. I also received most of the discs that I... -

SACD/DVD-Audio/BR-Audio albums
Hi Guys and Gals, Looking through the search engine, looks like there hasn't been a thread on Hi-rez audio in years. I owned several SACD's since 2005 that collected dust before getting my speaker rig in order recently and now I can finally enjoy Multi-channel music discs... -
Worst recorded/Mastered Albums
Quote: DM is an incredibly loud, distorted mess. I guess they decided to dial the volume to 11. The Guitar Heroes rip of DM sounds a lot better. -
Will an SSD last longer than an HDD (in laptops)?
I'm sure you've read it before if you've done some research on SSD, my desktop boots up in 15 seconds with my Kingston SSD. It's beautiful. I've also re-imaged it with Win 7 in 15 minutes. IMHO, SSD prices have dropped sufficiently to buy one to upgrade from a standard HDD. Assuming...- gloco

The Video Game Music Thread
This is my kind of thread. As a kid I would often let the intro to Zelda 2 play without starting the game for several minutes I just found myself getting swept into the game thanks to the brilliant music. Been a long time fan of videogame soundtracks dating back to the NES. ...- gloco

Best "mastered" albums of the decade?
Bingo! That's why some people, like myself, will only buy the vinyl version of an album. There's just not as much leeway with mastering the vinyl version to run hot, like the CD/digital version. Plus, it doesn't hurt to buy the vinyl album when the CD is included anyway :P Quote: -
Best "mastered" albums of the decade?
Quote: My understanding of why vinyl are better mastered has more to do with the limits of vinyl than anything else. Probably something to do with the s/n of vinyl compared to the CD. As well as how close can the grooves be placed and all that other stuff. -
Best "mastered" albums of the decade?
Quote: I think in terms of mastering it involves where the instruments are placed, how much space (or air) is between instruments, where vocals are placed. Besides how wide (or spread out) the music can sound, height is another factor. Dynamics are also crucial. Hell, it can be a...
