Sony NW-ZX300
I've been using the ZX300 with my Fiio FH7 for a couple weeks now, and I am finding that the ZX300 makes the FH7 sound brighter than any of my other sources (Dragonfly Red, iFi iDSD Black). I've seen many people say they think the ZX300 has a slightly warm sound, but I definitely have not found...- jsplice

Fiio X5 3rd gen || 2x AKM 4490 || Balanced Out || DSD || DXD | DTS | Android || Dual Card Slot
Yea I would definitely not describe my power button as "tactile, clicky and easy to press." It's actually the opposite in every way. There is no discernible "click" when I press mine down, and it has quite a bit of resistance. Out of any device I've ever owned, this button has required the...- jsplice

Fiio X5 3rd gen || 2x AKM 4490 || Balanced Out || DSD || DXD | DTS | Android || Dual Card Slot
So aside from my small issue with the power button that I am slowly getting over, I've been doing a lot of listening and comparing. The x5iii is definitely a laid back sounding unit. I would say it's best at home with IEMs. When trying to use it to directly drive my Focal Elear and T5P, it...- jsplice

Fiio X5 3rd gen || 2x AKM 4490 || Balanced Out || DSD || DXD | DTS | Android || Dual Card Slot
Had my X5iii for almost a week now, and for the life of me, I can't get used to this power button. It's very hard to press, and it seems like I have to press all my force directly in the middle or it doesn't register. That issue, and the so-so battery life are the only draw backs for me right...- jsplice

Chord Mojo(1) DAC-amp ☆★►FAQ in 3rd post!◄★☆
To add to some of the complaints being listed here, I've had my Mojo for about a month, and I've been pretty disappointed with the battery life. I'm lucky to get 4-5 hours play time, using a moderately efficient sent of headphones like the Beyerdynamic T5P 2nd gen. To add to that, I simply can...- jsplice

Chord Mojo(1) DAC-amp ☆★►FAQ in 3rd post!◄★☆
For those using their Mojo with a Fiio X5iii via coax, where is a good place to order an affordable coax cable? Moon Audio can custom make one I see, but it's rather expensive for what I am looking for. Was hoping to stay under $30.- jsplice

1MORE Announces New Quad Driver IEM @ CES 2017
So I just grabbed a pair of these from Amazon this past week since they were on sale (maybe still are?). Only have about 15 hours on them so far, listening a few different sources (Sony NWZ-A17, Chord Mojo, Audioquest Dragonfly Red). I think so far my favorite source with these is the...- jsplice

AudioQuest NightHawk Impressions and Discussion Thread
Interesting comments here regarding the NH and Mojo combo. Sounds like some people are really enjoying it. I am planning to pick up a Mojo here probably in the next few weeks. I'm hoping it will sound somewhat close in performance to the 600i, cause this thing sounds good, aside from the issue...- jsplice

AudioQuest NightHawk Impressions and Discussion Thread
I haven't used my NH in a while. I just got them out today to use with an amp I am borrowing at the moment, the Questyle CMA 600i. My main headphones for the past year have been the Focal Elear. After using the Elear all this time and then switching back to the NH, I immediately realized how...- jsplice

Focal Elear - Impressions Thread
The WA5 must be a spectacular amplifier. Probably like you said has way more power than the Elear needs, since I too have noticed how efficient they are. I have been powering mine with a Dragonfly Red, normally having the volume in Windows 10 set to 10-15%. I'm also not one who likes to blow...- jsplice

Focal Elear - Impressions Thread
I don't necessarily think a tube amp would be overkill. The WA22 may certainly be overkill, but even a lower powered tube amp would be nice for adding a bit of warmth to the mids. It's just a personal preference, and I won't know until I try if it's a good match. As for the M stage, I...- jsplice

Focal Elear - Impressions Thread
I'd like to hear my Elear with a good tube amp. I'm currently only using a Dragonfly Red, but I've got a really good DAC in my speaker system I'd like to use (PS Audio DirectStream). My dad has a Woo WA22 that I'd like to borrow and try out with the Elear. I'm guessing that whole combination...- jsplice

New Dragonfly Black and Red Discussion
My Dragonfly Red is way more than loud enough for my Focal Elear and even the Beyer T1.2. People who say that they need more power must be listening at extremely loud and potentially dangerous levels. In Windows 10, with my Elear, I usually listen with the master volume set around 10-12. With...- jsplice

Focal Elear - Impressions Thread
This is a very interesting graph. It's true that the 4k range is "middle treble," but if you look closely, you'll notice that a lot of instruments have their harmonics somewhere in the 4k range. So while this part of the frequency range doesn't really get into the midrange, it essentially is...- jsplice

New Beyerdynamic T1 (2nd Generation)
I would actually love to own both the T1.2 and Elear, but it's not in the cards. I'm going to have to choose one or the other. Since the Elear thus far have been the better all-rounders, I'll probably have to go that way. As far as wasting money, tell me about it. I chased my tail for...- jsplice

New Beyerdynamic T1 (2nd Generation)
Agreed. It's what makes this all so fun, but also frustrating at times when you tend to base you buying choices strictly on other reviews. Really the only way to do it is to buy new from a place that has a return policy, or buy something used with the understanding that you may take a loss if...- jsplice

New Beyerdynamic T1 (2nd Generation)
Lol that's funny that you say that, because I feel like the complete opposite. The T1.2 for me are more engaging initially, but I tire of them quickly. I can listen to the Elear for hours on end. The T1.2 sound spectacular with any acoustic or "unplugged" (like Alice in Chains Unplugged)...- jsplice

New Beyerdynamic T1 (2nd Generation)
So you think the Elears are more fatiguing than the T1.2? That's interesting. What is it about the Elear that tires your ears? For me and the T1.2, it's the hot treble that wears me out, especially on poorly mastered albums that have pumped up treble. It renders them practically...- jsplice

@glassmonkey I haven't measured the db level after I've set my listening level, so I can't say where I'm at there. I've also never used the iDSD with the HD600 so can't make that comparison. Yea, I've got the channel imbalance thing before when having the volume set low in normal mode. That's...- jsplice

Focal Elear - Impressions Thread
I'd say give them some time. I had a negative opinion of the mids when I first got them (and still can't say they are the best mids in a headphone I've heard by any means). But my ears have adapted somewhat. The Elears offer so many other good qualities as all-rounder headphones. I'm...- jsplice

Even with the somewhat-inefficient Beyer T1.2s, the amp in the iDSD is overkill. I still run the iDSD on eco mode with the T1.2s. I'd say unless you're looking for a portable unit that can power the HE-6, you'll never use all the power that the iDSD can output. Headphones now are becoming...- jsplice

Nice review. I currently have the old iDSD and the Dragonfly Red. They perform very close to one another, but the Dragonfly Red is only $200. I'm having a hard time justifying the extra cost of the iDSD.- jsplice

New Dragonfly Black and Red Discussion
I had the same problem with my DF Red and my iPhone 6s Plus. I reached out to Audioquest on this, and they suggested the same thing: to use the USB 3.0 camera kit. I'm not really too keen on this personally, as it adds bulk. I haven't yet gone out to get the USB 3.0 camera kit, so I can't...- jsplice

Beyerdynamic DT 1990 PRO // DT 1990 PRO MK II -- Impressions Thread
If it's true the the 1990s sound like the T1.2s but with a sweeter midrange and smoother treble, that must be a fantastic sounding can. I am currently evaluating the T1.2 along with the Focal Elear. I've owned the HD 650s twice in the past (wish I would have kept them). The T1.2s definitely...- jsplice

New Beyerdynamic T1 (2nd Generation)
Just got my T1.2 yesterday. I've been comparing them against the Focal Elear. They are definitely very different sounding headphones. The Elears are more broken in at this point; the T1.2 only have about 15 hours on them, so they still have a way to go. I'm powering the T1.2 from a...- jsplice
