Are modern CDs still lossless?
SACD nor any other higher definition didn't catch on for several reasons. Probably the biggest reason was marketing. For the average person an SACD is not better than a CD. The usability is exactly the same (the disc is the same size and playing them is literally the same). For example CD won...- tuoppi

USB Isolator and PC noise
There is no adverse effects when everything works. But when something goes wrong and the amp starts looking for a ground it will most likely use the user (me) as the ground which is pretty dangerous. Seeing as the amp is sitting at my desk and I sometimes use it with headphones I rather not take...- tuoppi

USB Isolator and PC noise
I recently bought a tube amp for my PC (Litte Dot MKIII). I am using an USB DAC. The problem is that there is ground loop related noise. There is a buzzing noise on high volumes. When I scroll a web page there is more noise. And when I play a game there is a lot of buzzing. Anyway, the cause...- tuoppi

LP/Vinyl bass vs digital bass
Usually the receiver has a ground pin somewhere near the phono inputs. Connect the ground cable to that. If there isn't one you need to find something else that is grounded, your shelf probably isn't.- tuoppi

The most overused expressions on Head-Fi
"Musical" when describing the sound of something. I have no idea what that means. There are many other terms that also make no sense when describing a sound, but I think that is the one that baffles me the most and people use it all the time.- tuoppi

DealExtreme Review: Use Only as a Last Resort
I have no problems with DealExtreme either. I have made numerous orders and I had to deal with their customer service once too. I ordered product that went out of stock soon after I ordered, I waited for 2 months for it to get back in stock. Then I gave up and asked for a refund. They weren't...- tuoppi

How important are the actual digital players?
If you are using an external DAC the transport (cd player, laptop, etc) component doesn't really matter that much. The DAC does the hard part. The transport part has an easier job and depending on who you ask how much difference it makes the answer will range from nothing at all to huge. I am...- tuoppi

MINI PCM2704 HI-FI USB DAC SOUND CARD, No Brainer?
Umm. This might be a stupid question, but aren't caps supposed to be of certain rating instead of just, well, "bigger" like you used?- tuoppi

2010 model SACD player from Sony. BDP-S370. "Bargain of the century!" -- Hi-Fi World Magazine
To make it even simpler: Analog is the actual sound you listen to. Analog sound does not have bits or sample rates at all. It's a continuous waveform. Digital on the other hand is how the sound is stored on CD or SACD (or any other digital storage format). You can't listen to the...- tuoppi

Upgrading/modifying my TT (Pro-Ject Debut III)
I have that table and I have been looking for upgrade options too. I have got a totally opposing impression. The cart is the first thing you should change. Upgrading the needle (which you have already done) can make it somewhat better. There is no tonearm height adjustment though which...- tuoppi

I just wish Head-Fi would have stayed with vBulletin. It just is the best forum software. In headphone terms this change was like going from Stax to Bose.- tuoppi

Message field has become extremely problematic.
I am having lots of problems with the message field too. Posting images doesn't work ("A temporary error occurred. Please retry your request."). Posting Youtube videos doesn't work (a rectangle appears with no video in it). The cursor disappears like mentioned above.- tuoppi
