Lightning to USB-C - For Audeze and other lightning headphones

Would the Cipher cable work with other similar adapters? There are many other options currently available.

If it's a simple digital gain control, yes, pretty much.

Raising the entire spectrum is simply adding more gain. The ear is thus 'tricked' that the louder setting sounds better.

Nothing wrong with your hearing. By the contrary, your hearing is very good. Weirdest tuning choice IMO, but if you venture and fix it with an eq, they can sound amazing.

If you are a classical musician you will probably prefer a natural tuning, especially for chamber music, where the instruments are exposed and have to sound as close to real life as possible. Layla is not a natural sounding monitor at all; in fact it is very artificial sounding (I come from a...

Easy: run a sine sweep. If at some point the sound suddenly jumps on one side there's something wrong with the corresponding driver from the opposite channel.

AKG K3003 High End 3 Way System Headphone

My remote/mic died a year ago. It's the weak link on the 3003i system. I'm a bit luckier; I can still use them as regular IEMs, although lately there seems to be a problem with one of the twfk drivers.

Indeed it is. That's why for me is so frustrating they are so oddly tuned. I hope to live the day I won't need to eq my hps.

Not in public, but, mind you, Layla response is very unpredictable, the eq for one source might be quite different from that of another. I wrote about that earlier on this thread.

It depends on your skills (for properly eqing them, don't ask me why, all headphones need that if you want to do serious audio work on them) and listening abilities (or so to speak, learning them afterwards, especially for judging the mid frequencies information and dynamics).   My eq'd Laylas...

JH Audio Layla and Angie - Head-Fi TV

Now you're talking.   I would first check, however, even the response of UERR with a sweep before taking it as an absolute reference. Your eq settings do roughly adress Layla's problematic areas, but also differ here and there from my own.   Besides that they do prove how far actually...

Didn't notice a difference after almost a year.   John Culter's measurements confirm my findings, the huge dip in the high  mids and the big spike in the treble. Looks like mount Everest. An un-smoothed representation could be come even closer. Very peculiar vision of what 'reference' means...

    Sennheiser IE800 IEM's

Haha! That's epic!   My new Mojo sounds so much better than the Dragonfly, and it's not a matter of preference, it's measurable in any way.

Well, IME the olives sound bassier/fuller than the silicone, and I also found a way to quickly and efficiently insert the IEMs in my ears, without squeezing and then having to wait for the foams to regain their shape. I could be lucky though, my ear canals have pretty much the width of the...

You can do the same with silicone tips. I had the best results with the included ones and with the Sony hybrids. But I still prefer the sound of the foamies, better isolation, fuller sound.

Completely agree with that!   But to go even further, one can take the foam tips and cut them, only not at the tip, but at the rear side! And, of course, remove that foam that is interposed between the bores and your ear membrane first, as it has the opposite effect of the silicone tips...

JH Audio Layla and Angie - Head-Fi TV

I detailed throughout this thread and the other Layla thread the whole process, I think I'll bore everyone to death with my observations if I write them again. Please take a bit of time and read the thread. Others noticed roughly the same problems (mainly some major dips in the high mids and a...

LOL!   Try these ones:   http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GCSFUIQ?keywords=earphones%20plus&qid=1451505298&ref_=sr_1_3&sr=8-3   To me they are very close to the stock ones, maybe they are the same thing. They are cheap, so you don't risk much.   However, to me the best are Shure...

JH Audio Layla and Angie - Head-Fi TV

A friendly advice from a fellow engineer: don't blindly buy them like I did. They are certainly not reference as in flat, as in how monitoring speakers are. Listen to them and only then decide if they are what you need. I only use them equalized, and they can truly shine if you take your time...

Well, the thing with BA drivers is, they always sound somehow soft. If a dynamic driver has such a peak, it is easily audible and very disturbing for those with sensitivity to high frequencies, just as your impression about the HD800 shows. For me, the k3003, which has a similar treble emphasis...

The problem is not in the bass. With the bass pots you can make them sound pretty flat up to about 1k.   Above that area is where the 'fun' begins. Big dips in the 2k and 4k (the severity of the second one is very source dependent) followed by a more or less pronounced peak at 7k (again...

Fair enough.   I hope you will eventually enjoy your Layla, though I can surely empathise with you. For me it was a big disappointment, but after spending a few days with a tone generator and a powerful eq I use in my work, I achieved what I believe to be the best out of these IEMs and I'm...

Makes sense. Indeed, it's a good idea to buy some capable speakers first, but then upgrading the converter/amp will make you appreciate them even more, and is the next thing to do.   Listening to Layla from the iPhone, especially after properly eq-ing them, was a very rewarding experience for...
