I had exactly the same issue. Violectric V200 pretty much solved the problem in my case as well. Much recommended.

Senns I find too boring (HD598 and 600) or too piercing (HD700 and 800), hifimans I generally like but my ears don't deal well with the amount of detail...

It's worked out perfectly! The odd thing is that now, the amp is set to low gain if the gain button is pushed in. Before the modification, it was 2.5/6.5 gain and now it's 2.5/1.0 gain and not 1.0/2.5. That's not reason for concern, right? I mean, I'll just keep the button pushed in.

there is no "better" in audio, unless your goal is high fidelity/neutrality (in that case, pick the sennheiser). Go listen to both of them and pick the one you like better.

hmm, no, i'm quite sure i'm NOT bypassing the ODAC using the motherboard's DAC, it's the other way round... right?. But then what am I adjusting when i change the volume in windows? When I click the little icon at the bottom right corner, it tells me that i'm adjusting the volume of the ODAC...

they are a tad more expensive, but you could have a look at the sennheiser hd 25-1 ii. They were built for DJs, are small on-ears and offer great isolation, in case you need that. they won't fall off your head either, you can spread the two parts of the headband.

hmm, by now i'm truly interested in this product. how would you describe the bass? all i ever wanted is a smoother 560 with more rumbly sub-bass presence... i know, i could go for an audeze product, but i feel they're overpriced and too heavy.

Hmm, less peaky than the 560? that sounds fantastic. does it also sound richer and fuller?
