Sennheiser CX & CX Plus impressions...What! Bloody good!
It all started with finding a solution to late night TV watching without disturbing the wife and kid. Being on call till 6am for my job as an emergency roadside breakdown car mechanic means there are quiet times that need filling in on occasions. With technology moving at a frightening pace...- SP Wild

What Makes "Great Detail" in TOTL Headphones?
I think great details can be broken down into two elements in a headphone. 1. Precise pressure control 2. Sheer driver speed Precise pressure control requires a total air control system with rigid and 'torquey' motors that can push the mids and bass into seamless cohesion and excellent...- SP Wild

Audeze LCD X vs Sennheiser HD58x (I prefer the Senn how could it be?!)
I have never heard a closed back headphone that didn't somehow destroy the mids. You could spend more money to try chase the unattainable perfection, but I have found that price never equals performance. For example, the Koss Portapros and Sennheiser PX100 have areas in the midrange so good...- SP Wild

Audeze LCD X vs Sennheiser HD58x (I prefer the Senn how could it be?!)
It's the best headphone I have ever heard. The precision and clarity and tonal balance of the centre mids to upper mids puts my HD800S to shame. The best I ever heard period. Cymbals and Hi hats are almost on par with the HD800S. Although my LCD2 still renders these elements the best in my...- SP Wild

Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread
Yeah, something about tube amps and my HD650. Whenever I crave some HD650 flavour, it's always served with a tube sauce. I think in ways the tube helps the HD650 breathe better in some frequencies. Unlike with the eyes, where depth perception is an absolute function of stereoscopic vision...- SP Wild

Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee Review & Measurements
Had a bit of a play with Hellblade Senuas Sacrifice a while back. Tried both the HD650 and HD58X with Dolby Atmos enabled on the XBoX 1X. This game is encoded binaurally supposedly. The whispers in the ears exhibit greater depth and directionality on the HD58X. The HD 650 did well, but it...- SP Wild

Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee Review & Measurements
I don't think so at all. My HD58X does not sound worse than my HD650. It sounds different, but not worse. The HD650 does something better and the HD58X does other things better. I feel they compliment each other perfectly. They have the same tonal balance with vastly different sound signatures.- SP Wild

Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread
That's a refreshing take on headphone appreciation. I never quite understood the obsession with soundstage and imaging until I properly set up studio monitors. Then I understood that spatial elements are encoded by the creators of the music to portray elements of 3 dimensionality. Going...- SP Wild

Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee Review & Measurements
Interesting post. I always felt that we as humans are very responsive to the resonant qualities of wood as that was the natural material used for the first musical instruments in human evolution. The aluminium enclosure of my Neumann monitors definitely contribute to its signature. Although I...- SP Wild

I think imaging and soundstage can be quite different on different recordings. Some tracks might be mastered and produced on a speaker set that is more 'compatible' to a certain type of headphone technology. I think there are so many different monitor speaker types that are all technically...- SP Wild

Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread
Yes. Indeed it is. :deadhorse: I am with the post two posts previous to your post and hear grain on all dynamic headphones. Except orthodynamic. I hear it in dome and paper tweeters. Compression horn tweeters would 'blend' it away (as does my K701 headphone)... except piezoelectric horns...- SP Wild

Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee Review & Measurements
I think it's a good idea to have some idea of listening levels and get educated about it. The phone might prove useful without the expenses. Geez... I start to feel as I get older that as we age...we start to dislike loud bass. Old people probably don't like treble...they just find bass to be...- SP Wild

Schiit Valhalla 2 With Grado?
Yes. The Valhalla 2 was designed with low impedance headphones and high impedance headphones. There is a switch in the back to toggle between the two. I bought the Valhalla specifically to drive my Grado HF2. To my surprise...it drives all dynamics very well. It is a very good full tube...- SP Wild
