Recording Impulse Responses for Speaker Virtualization
I have it set to the loudest I would listen to actual music. I went ahead and just did the measurements at 0db gain and it still worked out. The windows gain is digital anyway so there is nothing to gain (no pun intended) from using it.- simplefi

Recording Impulse Responses for Speaker Virtualization
I’ve started experimenting with room measurements using the UMIK-1. I’ve found that the sensitivity is quite low for my normal listening volume. I am getting headroom readings in the 30db range. Are the results more useable if the digital gain in windows is turned up or is it ok to use the...- simplefi

Recording Impulse Responses for Speaker Virtualization
HD800 has been proven to work well for speaker virtualization and is what Smyth Research recommends for the Realiser (along w Stax). Open back seem to work the best IME.- simplefi

Excellent condition cable for HD800 series headphones that is just over 8 ft. This was a great upgrade over the stock cable; very musical. I recently acquired this cable but it is just barely long enough for my new setup so it is up for sale while I replace it with a longer cord. Shipping is...- simplefi

Recording Impulse Responses for Speaker Virtualization
Very interesting observations with your 8XX. I picked up some HD800s to experiment with Impulcifer and my findings are similar to yours. Localization is excellent, as is technical performance. My headphones plot is a little "hairier" than your 8XX but not as bad as the Anandas. Not sure how...- simplefi

Recording Impulse Responses for Speaker Virtualization
Is it possible to output HRIRs in a desired sample rate that isn't 48khz without having to resample? Seems like Impulcifer only outputs at 48khz unless the --fs parameter is used to resample to another rate. I'm trying to record HRIRs directly using my desired sample rate.- simplefi

Recording Impulse Responses for Speaker Virtualization
For Impulcifer, lower headroom just means your signal to noise ratio is higher. You want your intended signal (sweep) to be as high as possible relative to the noise (ambient, background, hiss from equipment, etc) and turning up the volume and/or gain are both ways to achieve this. But as you...- simplefi

Recording Impulse Responses for Speaker Virtualization
If I am understanding this right, is this just generating the headphone compensation EQ as a separate parametric EQ in EQ-APO? In that case running this with a measurement using "--no_headphone_compensation" should sound the same as a normal Impulcifer measurement. Running it as you are, it is...- simplefi

Recording Impulse Responses for Speaker Virtualization
One thing I found to keep in mind for getting good measurements is to be completely still when measuring your speakers. It is very easy to involuntarily move slightly. For example, if you shift your head or neck position by a couple mm, it'll be equivalent to having a different headshape by...- simplefi

Recording Impulse Responses for Speaker Virtualization
I get around 8-12db headroom, sometimes a little more or less. I make sure the room is quiet (no fans, or other ambient noise) and adjust the gains so that the signal LEDs are blinking at about the same rate for both channels. I found that if you back off the gain to the point where you arent...- simplefi
