Sennheiser HD800 S Impressions Thread (read first post for summary)
TLDR version of this debate: -A bunch of people who know what they’re doing measured differences in second order harmonic distortion, which they attributed to perceived changes, particularly in bass presentation. -Other people dispute there are differences, measure the differences, dispute that...- mikoss

Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread
Interested in hearing your thoughts, if you do go through with the KISS mod, @DavidA I believe differences between 6XX’s and 650’s are fairly few and far between. Sennheiser has fairly strict QA/QC, but the odd ‘unicorn’ pair with slightly better distortion measurements seems to exist.- mikoss

In my experience, ordering pads through Sennheiser Canada is the cheapest/best way. They ship from QC, and I’m pretty sure there is no shipping cost. Maybe you’ll find them in the states though... I’d go with official Sennheiser pads, unless you want to change the sound of your 650’s. Have you...- mikoss

I could see Gumby being preferred with a colder/clinical sounding amplifier as it is a touch warmer than Yggy. I can't see anyone preferring Bimby to either... Mimby I could definitely see, as it's a lot cheaper, and arguably doesn't take as long for thermal stability/warmup. Mimby is also a...- mikoss

Shorted or grounded inputs are most likely the cause. Gumby doesn't like this happening, which causes distortion. This is probably caused by the Pioneer when it's turned off. Your fix is probably as good as any... Leave it muted. An AV splitter may cause signal degradation.- mikoss

Aune T1 USB Tube DAC+ SS Amp Discussion Thread ***See first post for FAQ--Updated on 02/14/15***
Nice, that should be an awesome project. I really enjoyed the T1, but having had a chance to listen to some other DACs, I have to say that it isn't exactly a knockout. With a decent tube, it has the ability to sound very musical, but ultimately, the TI chip lacks overall clarity. It tends to...- mikoss

Aune T1 USB Tube DAC+ SS Amp Discussion Thread ***See first post for FAQ--Updated on 02/14/15***
The EL-8 open are better than the closed, and they have the Audeze house sound. Compared to dynamic drivers, I'd expect more bass, and faster transients. It's been years since I heard the EL-8's, but I remember comparing them side by side with the LCD-3F's and they seemed to have a similar...- mikoss

God this discussion is pointless. If you can't hear the effects of jitter at that measured level, great. That leaves the rest of us who can. Enjoy your listening. It's well worth leaving your DAC on.- mikoss

That case wear looks really odd. My ZD is at least 2 years old and doesn't have any fading like that.- mikoss

CM - I know the 650's have been on your ears for a while. So you've had a chance to hear modded 650's, and this is your conclusion, or are you summarizing this thread? Either way, I disagree 100%. As you know, they've also been my headphones of choice for quite some time, and now I could never...- mikoss

Hilarious and dumb. Use the stock cable and put a 4 pin XLR on there. If you don't have one, hit me up... I'm just west of Toronto and can make you one for less than $60 with parts and time.- mikoss

Without trying to generate any kind of controversial comments, I took a pic of some measurement comparisons taken by Tyll. They are all available at these links: Grado SR325 measurements http://www.innerfidelity.com/images/GradoSR325.pdf HD...- mikoss

Yes, per above, grin and bear the 650's for a good week. Your brain may become accustomed to the sound, vs the "illuminated" treble of the Grados. The Aune is ok, but not great. It does a decent job with the 650's at the lowest dip switch setting... I found changing it higher caused...- mikoss

Imo:: The 800 bests the 650's in bass quality and quantity, macro-dynamics, overall soundstage and imaging (the 650's scaling in this area is huge though... soundstaging just gets better and better). The 800's are also tuned differently in general... Much less warmth than the 650's, and also...- mikoss
