I just got a new zen micro and sometimes it doesnt start properly. once it turns on it goes to the creative start image and no further I then have to take out the battery and put it back in before the thing will start right.

does anyone know if there is a fix for this. is it a serious problem and if so should i send it back to the company?

sometimes my zen micro gets stuck at the start-up page too. music will start playing but the screen is stuck. if i just press the on/off button (don't hold it) then it goes back to normal.

i have owned a few creative's in my day and they are notorious for freezing. i think its b/c of flaky firmware.

My less than a week old ZM with the latest fw is exhibiting the same problems. It crashed on boot up. Then the next time it tried to rebuild the library only to hang at like 95%. Even removing battery didn't work. Then finally after the umpteenth time of removing battery, I got home and plug it into the USB. This resulted in a frozen screen (with corrupted graphics) while finishing up rebuilding library with the music playing in the background. Pressing some keys and the screen refreshed and back to normal...

I had a simliar problem - my Micro hung about 99% of the way through rebuilding the library on a restart. I corrected it by going into Recovery Mode (shut down, remove battery, hold On button in On position while reinserting battery, wait for power up) and doing a Cleanup. No troubles after that. Although performing this operation will revert all player settings to default, no music or library data is lost.

Thanks for the tip. I will try that next time.

I am having this same problem, except that going into recovery mode and reinstalling firmware aren't able to solve the problem.
in both cases it will just freeze. all the functions in recovery mode will only cause it to freeze up when i try them and when i try to connect it to my computer it and the firmware software just freeze up while it's trying to recognize it.

anyone have any suggestions? i don't want to have to send it back to creative.

You may be SOL, I had to send back mine and a friends to creative for that hanging problem. Nothing I did would get them to work.

Same here. The second one I got worked perfectly though.

The only times my Zen has frozen is when I yank it out of my computer without doing the add/remove hardware, or when I do something else stupid. The ability to remove the battery is awesome though.

Always wondered did many people use the removable battery feature.
