The review reads like faint praise for a $1,200 player. Perhaps it is a superb $400 player. More importantly, is "a sound that very much feels like it could be the truth" the type of sound you want?

What do you expect from a reviewer that comes up with sentences like this... "the sax’s reedy sound feels positively bristly, as if looking at cilia under a microscope"

That reviewer doesn't know what he's talking about. He's just throwing a bunch of words around and pretending they mean something. He spent so much time talking about all his favorite CDs, I wonder if he took the time to listen to the player? Anyone who would use the Red Hot Chili Peppers to gauge audio quality is a moron.

Why is it that so many audiophile equipment reviewers have such poetic vocabularies and pedestrian tastes in music?

See ya

For slightly over $500 it could be real good. Has a real good Crystal delta-sigma DAC and a decent Philips transport. Not class A output I'm sure, and likely only an average power supply.

Definitely worth considering at that price level, notwithstanding the review's deficits.

NYsound has alot of impressive-looking cd players for really cheap prices! DANG! I'll have to look more into some of these products!

True, but when you factor in the shipping it becomes bit less impressive, seems like they offer DHL only and want $129 shipping for some CD players.

I would almost guess that they are shipping from China and that the Bricks and mortar address is just an office ?

Yes, they are shipping from China. Total cost is just over $500. Not bad though - the unit is heavy, which is good for vibration dampening.
