Hi, I bought this thing:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002SK66OY/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00

hoping to use it in the following fashion:

Astro Mixamp -< Ysplitter -----headphone
                                      \___microphone

Now the problem is that microphone does not quite work. I mean it works if i plug it 1/4 way into the slot, otherwise it just does not register. If I keep it plugged 1/4 way into the slot it works great. It looks like some connector mismatch.. Microphone jack looks exactly like headphone jack (2 stripes etc..).

I wonder what adapter I should get to fix things.

Microphone is from Sennheiser, the kind used for interviews.

You can't have an input (microphone) and output (headphone) connected to the same jack like that.  It looks like your mixamp has separate mic and headphone inputs.

well it is a headset out and the fact is that it does actually work, but only if I keep the microphone jack plugged 1/4 of it's length in. There is a mic out as well, but it does not work with PS3 astro also sell their own Y-splitter, but the shipping price makes it a no-buy.. so I wonder what's the catch with my problem
