Hi guys

I will keep it short and simple. So I just got myself an ATH M50. Its running on the onboard sound processor (VIA) at this moment. So i was wondering about getting an Asus Xonar Essence STX to complement my M50. Now, about my preferences...i dont care much about bass. M50's default bass is ample for me. My priority is crisp and clear sound. I will use my M50 mostly to listen to music.

So, My question is, will getting a Xonar Essence STX will boost my M50's performance significantly/noticeably in terms of the given parameters? Is there any other equipment u guys suggest that will perform better (than xonar essence stx) with my M50. My max budget is 150$.

Thanks a ton for your time. Happy Listening

if you dont want any surround dsp algorithms, like Dolby headphone for gaming then get an external amp/dac, since m50 doesn't need much amping, you can simply get something like Fiio E10.

Xonar Essence STX vs Fiio E10...which will be better in terms of sound quality? I dont care much about bass or surround dsp algorithms. Flat response suits me fine. Portability is also unnecessary  for me as i use my M50 exclusively with my desktop. All i care about is clear and crisp sound.

I'd go with E10 since it has lower output impedance. it should pair well with your m50. honestly I don't recommend soundcards unless you really want surround dsp algorithms, they are absolutely headache when it comes to drivers.

You can get a Creative Sound Blaster Z for $85 from Best Buy or Amazon. I just upgraded from an X-Fi Fatal1ty Titanium Pro and it was a step up.
