Should i get the DG for the built in amplifier which the DX lacks, or is an amp even required for these headphones? I know that DG is a cheaper model and that DX will provide better sound quality in theory, but im not sure if it is noticable, or if the built in amp on DG should be the deciding factor.

I would say save a few dollars and get the DG (headphone amplifier, brings out the best in the HD-598).
DX is better for Analog 5.1 speaker output.
