xfi platinum v. emu 0404

Like I said, thry the X-Fi and find out what you like best first, since you said you already have an X-Fi. If you like the CMMS and such, no reason to get the 0404 since it doesn't have it. If you don't then maybe consider the 0404 since it may have slightly better sonic characteristcs.

I've heard xfi xtreme music, it has a laidback airy quality. Emu 0404 will be more upfront and impactful.

I can't comment directly on the 0404 vs platinum, but I have heard the platinum directly vs my 1212m's analouge outs, and the platinum is not anywhere near the same quality level.

For the price of the x-fi platinum, it is a rip off. The 0404 i'm sure is better, and the 1212m is definetly better.

If you have a 5.1 setup and don't want to sacrifice it, do what I did:

I have my AV-710 set to 5.1 sound, as my primary sound device. All my movies and games get sent out this way. Then I have my 0404 which is used exclusively by Foobar by way of ASIO streaming. Now I've got the best of both worlds.

Edit: Yes, both sound cards are running in Windows at the same time. I know the AV-710 isn't the best surround source, but it's only $23, I already had it, and I'm not looking for SQ in movies and games.

AV-710 surround is really bad.

I believe there are plans of an E-MU card using the X-Fi chip on the horizon.
