Unfortunately, I think we'll all have to keep waiting. However, we have a beautiful piece of equipment with one or more DAC boards at our disposal. We should try to remember to enjoy the music that we have, on the equipment that we have, and make the most of the situation.
I'm still thoroughly enjoying my XD05 Pro and recently sent my WM8741 DAC module to NP Audio in the UK for some mods. I also sent a Lieewho HD200 opamp card to see what Steve could do. I've just received an update they're now ready for return shipping, so I should receive them later this week.

New R - 2R updates! The official team told me I’ll get the R - 2R test board around June 5th. I gotta help ’em test the sound and bugs, then send feedback to the engineers. When I get the test board, I’m gonna try to ask the engineers if I can take the shell off and snap pics of the circuit board layout to share with y’all. But I have no clue if the official team will be cool with that.
Here’s the lowdown on the R - 2R sound based on early testers’ feedback:
Sound signature: It’s somewhere between the AK4499ex and WM8741 (ROHM) in terms of tonality.
Soundstage:: Width is narrower than the ES9039, similar to the 4499ex, but it has more depth. Feels more layered and immersive in the vertical dimension.
Timbre & musicality: Hands down the most musical sound so far—warmer than the ES9039 but cleaner than the ROHM. Details are crisp and plentiful, without sounding harsh or sterile.
