In my IFI Gryphone, the display stopped working after a month of use. Have any of you had a similar problem?
Sorry to hear of your issue with the Gryphon, please take a moment to open a support ticket using the link below, so we may try and resolve this for you!

@iFi audio to use the gryphon as a dac using line out balanced or single ended in the page it says to put the volume for less distortion in 0 to -3db. However the gryphon now is 0-106 scale not in db anymore. So what is the right setting?

“A: On the 3.5mm HP output, use at a setting between 0dB to -3dB for lowest distortion.

Lowest distortion is at 0dB to -3dB, depending on how high the digital modulation is. At less digital modulation (typical music etc.) 0dB setting has lower THD. At 0.5 *** it’s 0.00143% on 0dB setting. At 1.0 *** it’s 0.0036% on -3dB setting.”

I will ask this question and get back to you here.

I can't make out if you are sharing something or asking the question.

The volume set at 100 provides normal single ended and balanced DAC output voltages and at that setting matches other fixed output DACs.

You can lower the volume a little but dropping it to even around 90 makes a substantial difference to the overall output volume available from the connected amplifier.

Thank you, yes that is my question, which is the right volume to use for the least distortion/best result.

In some testing last night I was using Gryphon in my Studio setup and what @BS5711 is accurate. I found 100 to be right where it should have been on music I was familiar with where it put the meters in my rig.

I am still waiting for the technical answer but I would stay at 100 for accuracy.

Cheers!!

Gryphon for quasi portable dac/amp for Hifiman Arya Stealth? Great choice or not so? Looking for something portable to move headphones between laptop, PC and couple places in my home. And I am not talking about volume levels because they are fine even on laptop headphone jack but I'm worried about sound quality, for some reason even cheap soundcard in my gaming pc can drive them loud enough but sound quality is lacking in comparision to my Fiio K5 PRO and Macbook internal DAC. Anyone used big planar headphones with it? Another option is Chord mojo 2 but gryphon features looks nice. Or should I spend more money and aim for gryphon's bigger brothers like idsd signature and diablo?

I think the Gryphon is a great choice for the convenience and sound quality you are seeking. I have had a Gryphon for quite a while and although I can't comment on your specific cans, I have never heard anything I have to sound bad on it, it is one of my favorite recommendations from our Lineup, I often use mine for watching TV at night as well. Although I am not a huge Bluetooth fan the implementation in the Gryphon is very good for those times when that is more useful.

Thanks for considering and asking the question, I'll leave the finer details of pairings to those who may know!

Cheers!!

They should sound good, I'll break out my HE1K stealth and have a go on it and report back for you.

So throwing my HE1K stealth on the Gryphon running balanced and BT from my phone they sound very good. I'm using the track parachute by milet and I'm getting all the spacial cues, great bass(without the magic button) and very nice treble. I think it would work great for a semi portable solution for you. Oh and I'm at volume level 88 so not even in turbo mode.
